Hi, I've been trying to get an engagement ring I bought, thanks to much help from the people here , insured for the past few months but I'm getting the run around from most insurance companies. Every tells me that they won't write the policy unless I get homeowners, renters insurance etc..Can any recommend and insurance agency that will write me a stand alone jewelry insurance policy for an engagment ring ($9500 appraisal). I do not want renters insurance, etc...and my price range for the insurance is about $50-$100 per year. I live in Pennsylvania so the insurance company must have a license to write policies in PA I would assume...thanks!!! |

Jeweler's Mutual is documented right here in the fax section: http://www.pricescope.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=2389&sessionID=3280B23228354780BC8930911C561564 Also documented here in the forum, State Farm. Both should be able to help you. I'd start checking with a local State Farm office, who may have better pricing, and provide you more options. Ira (Ruffles have Ridges) Z. |

Chubb.com Find a local agent. I have mine insured through them and it's the best policy I have ever read. My parents cancelled their Jeweler's Mutual after reading it. My jeweler will only recommend Chubb now. They have a no-hassle policy on theft, loss, damage, etc. I do know that some people have had to have "Recuts" on their chipped stones but I think thats rare even. They cater to the more "upscale" clientele and their customer service so far has been fantastic.

Thanks for the advice...actually tried to contact one of the "good" Chubb agencies listed on Pricescope that actually sell stand alone policies and they said that Chubb only issues polices starting at 20K(or close to that). So I think I'll look into that Jewelers Mutual...thanks again

We had my ring insured with Liberty Mutual. We have homeowners insurance with them so we had no problem getting the insurance. We are paying $359. It is a large stone. Then I started to read the advantages of the Chubb policy with an immediate check if you have a loss and the payout increase of up to 150% for replacement in case diamond prices go up. Liberty Mutual will replace the ring with a comparable and I get the impression that it would be very difficult to get them to give you the money instead of replacing the stone. I asked our insurance broker to get me a quote from Chubb. The rate was more than double that of Liberty Mutual. The cost for a Chubb policy was $750. I was told that Chubb is an excellent company to work with but you pay for what you get.
