There is very little liklihood that you could possibly quantify a visual difference of 20% between these two diamonds. It is conceivable that there is a slight difference that is a part of the reason for the price gap, but much of the price differential is likely to be perception rather than based on facts. There is no way you will be disappointed in the AGS graded diamond and truthfully, very little chance you will find much to complain about with the GIA graded one. Sure, they are a little different, but you are not going to have to compare them once you make a buying choice. Each is very likely to do very well on its own when set into a ring or another piece of jewelry. I won't tell you which to buy. It is a very personal decision that should be based on your best understanding of the subject. What' I'd choose to do may not be right for you, so best of luck.... I can't see how you'll go wrong unless the lady wants a 1ct+... Then you'll be in real trouble. David S. Atlas |

It is almost a sad comment on our trade when a stone is considered "just a GIA ideal". Both of these stones will be exquisite, but when you get to inspecting both stones in a myriad of light conditions, chances are very good that the H&A will be slightly more beautiful. Whether that translates into 20% price differential is totally up to you and how your eyes react to seeing the two stones together. Wink Wink Jones |

Wow! Great replies! I want to add that my girlfriend has a 2 carat E, vs round (poor baby)....it is NOT a H&A....I really must say that I have NEVER EVER seen a more amazing stone in my life. It is nothing short of breathtaking...and the compliments she gets when we are out in public don't stop....There are times when I think I may see part of the arrows, but I can't really get a good look, as I am blinded by the beauty of the stone.

Do you have diameter measurements for the GIA stone? I like the faint fluor, but that's just a personal pref... the AGS stone looks great too, nice #s. If that was all the info I had, I'd go with the H&A, because sight unseen I think those #s and the symmetry in an H&A indicate it has a very high likelihood of being amazing. The GIA stone might also be spectacular, but harder to tell from the info you have. Any chance you could get them both side by side and let your eyes be the judge?

The GIA stone has the following measurements: 6.05x6.09x3.75 Thus its diameter is smaller than the AGS stone (6.07x6.11x3.73). It does seem the GIA is a deeper cut, but it is still ideal.

I keep reading about stones of ideally perfect cut being amazing, but due to my lack of experience in seeing diamonds I am not sure whether the "amazingness" is something that can be spotted by everybody, or can be seen only by a trained eye after a careful examination. I know there are AGS0 cut diamonds that can look bad, but is the average AGS0 really that different than the most perfect H&A? In other words, maybe most ideal diamonds, AGS or GIA or whatever, look amazing, and maybe the difference in look most of the time can be ignored. After extensive research on the net about the 4C's, I went to a B&M store to actually see some diamonds and to my suprise I saw no difference between a selection of VS1-SI1, F-H color, and even premium vs. H&A cut. The single most noticeable feature to distinguish was the diameter. I did take the diamonds to different lightings and shadows, paid close attention to how they sparkle, looked at them side-by-side and not through the table to distinguish color, but nothing noticeable came out. After close examination I could see with the naked eye the arrows of the H&A, but the premium cuts also had them. Are some diamonds truly amazing because of their cut in comparison to the plain ideals so much that they startle everybody, not just the best experts?. And are those diamonds rare, or most ideals are amazing?

I agree w/ everyone else, but if you can afford the price difference (and since you asked for our opinions! ) I vote for #1 (if you are buying by the #'s only and can't see them both side by side to compare). Those #'s of #1 look cherry to me, aren't those Rhino's favorites??! The GIA stone is probably gorgeous, too... but the #'s just aren't there to let you know for sure. Is a sarin or megascope reading available? Just my 2 cents! ![]() Lynn And THAT'S my story and I'm sticking to it! |

Seems price is the biggest difference between these two stones. And, what will that extra 20% buy you - either with going w/ the more expensive stone or opportunity cost to spend the 20% on something else.
