I wanted to get peoples opinions on whether there is a very noticeable difference between a G and I. Ive seen samples of both color grades separate but not side by side. Ive found this diamond and it is eye clean based on the pictures I was sent but Im concerned that it may not be as colorless as I would like. Price: $6585 Report: AGS Shape: Round Carat: 1.285 Color: I Clarity: SI1 Depth: 60.8 Table: 55 Crown Angle: 34.5 Crown %: 15.3 Pavilion Angle: 40.8 Pavilion %: 43 Girdle: 34.5 Polish: Ideal Symmetry: Ideal Culet: Pointed Fluorescence: Negligible Measurements: 7.04-7.09X4.30 HCA: 1.2 Ex on all except Spread. Gem Appraisers: 1A Does anyone have any opinions/thoughts? Thanks for all your help. |

Face up probably not, Face down against a white card looking through the culet, yes.
If your're worried about color, check out the one I posted for get cut not ripped, It's a 1.28 G that's about the same price with PS discount.

Face up on good cuts, it is hard to tell... However at some angles, an I won't look quite as white. When you start getting into the I-J range, I have noticed differences. Just today I saw a few stones of D through G ideal cuts (Lazare Kaplan) and honestly, I couldn't see a lick of difference from the top. Some I stones (not all) I noticed a little bit of color. Not yellow per say, but not quite white.

I start to really notice and be able to pick up on color at the "J" range, but this isn't to say that a J stone will look yellow in all lights either. Face up, you may notice some vague difference between a G and an I, but you wouldn't necessarily be able to put your finger on it. It is very slight. I can't really tell color differences within 2 grades - for example, a D next to an F would look virtually the same to me, and a G next to an I, etc. But, I could tell an F from an I side by side more readily.

When I first bought, I had White Flash ship me an H and a J color ACA's. Face up there was almost no difference. Thru the pavillion, only a slight visual difference. It is absolutely amazing how well cut diamonds face up so beautifully!!
Why use a big word when a diminutive word would be succinct! |

When I was searching for a diamond, I had the same debate. The stone on the left is a 1.15 G and the right is a 1.32 I. I ended up picking the G. It is so incredibly white, I can't really imagine that there are 3 grades above it. I'm sure the "I" looks very white face up as well. ![]() Cheers, |

Yeah Im hoping that it does, Im having it set into a platinum setting and want it to show as colorless as possible. Thanks for the pic, those are nice diamonds.
