Attaching Chain to Bezel Pendant

noobie Ideal Rock Total Posts: 1,318 Last Post: 9/21/2007 Member Since: 3/3/2004	What do you think about the different ways to attach a cable chain to bezel pendant? As shown in "A" is the typical way I've seen it and shows the eye when looking at the pendant. In "B", the eye is turned so that only the edge shows when looking at it face on. I think Garry was recommending this in an earlier thread I read, but I'm not sure. Does B look cleaner than A and do you think it might cause more flipping or do you think C. This is a minor detail. Don't worry about it and make the darn thing. Sorry for the graphics, but I'm no where near as capable as AnA in this area.

I don't think this is C, a minor detail, because when your necklace flips all the time, you constantly have to mess around with keeping it organized and who would chose to hassle with this?

Edited to add: Actually mine is like A and B combined...the loop attached to the bezel tapers a bit/narrows as it touches the bezel but isn't a pronounced "line" like the B you've drawn. The attcahement loop is usually a little larger and they will look at you like a pair of eyes - the diamond becomes a big nose Neither A nor B will have any effect on flipping, but the heavier and the flatter the setting the better. Also if the chain is fine and light the relative weight of the setting will help stop flipping. I don't know...mine doesn't flip at all but I also defer to Garry and the majority of experience on this...the "flipping pendant" is one of those classic jewelry condundrums...kind of like bezel vs basket The legnth of the chain may be important also...Mine is very specific--17.25 inches and it lays perfectly. Maybe that's why it doens't flip aorund. Who knows. It doesn't have anything to do with the flipping issue. Can someone here help me with the diamond creeping to the side of the neck issue? My jeweler thinks that setting my diamond in the "floating" setting will make it travel a lot.

The diamond is the original e-ring stone I bought more than ten years ago. Back then I knew very little, but did know enough to look for a 6.5 mm diameter in a one carat stone. I bought it as a 1.02 carat SI2 D, but always had the feeling that it wasn't a "D" since the price I paid was too good. After looking around at stores, I bougth it from a guy called "Diamonds for Less" in a little office sitting at his desk with some loose diamonds. It was recently appraised again as a SI1 E. It's about 60% deep with a large 63% table. It is very bright white, but lacks fire and scintillation. Still a very pleasing stone with a different personality and some sentimental value. It's set in platinum which amkes it weighty with a good center of gravity and turned loops as to not make them like like ears. Thanks Garry and everyone else. Oh and special thanks to PQ for the inspiration and Jennifer for her help.

Plus, I believe it was PQ who posted recently that an H&A in a pendant isn't necessarily ideal for that position/part of the body--unlike earrngs and erings, pple tend not to look at them "head on" but at a slight tilt so different cuts might actually work better.
