HI, I am in the UK and looking to buy a diamond from Antwerp. I have found this website invaluable as a learning resource but now feel a bit confused. I have arranged to view the following princess cut diamonds to be mounted in a tension ring. They are all HRD certified, culet pointed and no fluorescence. I would value your input as to which is the better diamond to buy - Diamond 1 - Color: G Clarity: VS2 Weight: 1.02 ct Measurements: 5.34 x 5.34 x 4.39mm Table Diameter: 63% Crown Height: 17.5% Pavilion Depth: 62% Girdle: Medium 3% Polished Polish: Good Price: $3610.00 Diamond 2 - Color: G Clarity: VVS2 Weight: 1.00 ct Measurements: 5.44 x 5.37 x 4.09 mm Table Diameter: 75% Crown Height: 11.0% Pavilion Depth: 61.5% Girdle: Medium Polished Polish: Good Price: $4422.00 Diamond 3 - Color: F Clarity: VS1 Weight: 1.03 ct Measurements: 5.74 x 5.45 x 3.98 mm Table Diameter: 72% Crown Height: 8.5% Pavilion Depth: 62% Girdle: Thin Polished Polish: Good Price: $4500.00 Or should I as one manufacturer recommended be looking at a higher quality colour H? Any recommendations for manufactureres in Antwerp who sell to the public would be most welcome too. I look forward to your replies, Paula |

I see a huge difference in the table diameters of the first diamond, and the second two,75% seems pretty big to me. I am also looking at a tension setting, though not quite as big of a diamond. I haven't heard of HRD either, what is that? That's all, i'll let the experienced people tell you what's really up now

Hi and thanks for your reply, yes there is a big difference in the diamonds, the crown height in diamond 1 seems large as does the table diamater in diamond 2, so I'm leaning towards diamond 3 but would like another opinion. The HRD is the Antwerp Diamond High Council and they certify a lot of the diamonds in Antwerp. Thanks again

I'm not sure I understand the proportions listed. The table % is usually the ratio of the table's diameter to the total width of the diamond, not the table diameter itself. Also, the depths reported here are not total depths--the numbers we need to truly judge a stone (although they can be determined by dividing the depth by the width). For instance, the first stone has a depth of 82% which is not good. The second stone is still above the 75% maximum, with a depth of 76%. Only the third stone has a good depth at 73%, but it's crown is not very good (which means the stone will have less fire) because of the large table. There's a chance #3 could look good in person, but personally I would keep looking. Honestly, I agree that you would be MUCH better off with a higher quality "H"!
