I've been been looking for a diamonds, but not sure which one sounds the best. I want to have a diamond with a good cut, so I definetely want a H&A diamond, but I'm still not sure how to look at the measurements. I might buy my diamond from whiteflash or goodoldgold, cause they seem to be highly regarded in this forum.

Which H&A diamond would you choose and which one not. Give your favourite.

0.402 D VS1 ex-ex-ex-vg 60.5 56 35° 40.8° $1357

0.524 H VS2 ex-ex-vg-vg 61.8 55 34° 41° $1383S

0.460 H VVS1 ex-vg-vg-vg 61 55 34.8° 40.9° $1371

Im thinking of the 0.460 mainly because of the clarity.

Well, clarity is graded under a 10x loupe. Unless it is important to you to have the VVS1 on paper, you will not see any visual difference b/t a VS2 stone (or for that matter, in this size, a good SI1 stone) & a VVS1 stone. You will see a difference in the size & price. Something to consider.

Also, a premium is paid for the .50 mark. If you want to save money, try looking for the largest .43/.44 stone. By largest, I mean measurement in mm. Some stone have better spread because of a thinner girdle, a less deep stone or both.

I like the first stone best. But, I think I'd look into massaging my parameters. See what comes up in the G/H VS2/SI1 range.

Good luck. Is your budget around $1500?

Hi-

My vote is for the 1st one in your list. I like the D color (but that's a personal pref - if you can't tell a difference between a D and an H, then consider dropping color to a G to save money), I like the HCA score, I like slightly steeper crowns (again, that's my personal pref, you should see what your eye likes best).

I don't like the 41 degree pavilion angle on #2 as much, might make the stone leak a little light under the table.

I wouldn't put my money towards the VVS1 grade on #3, because unless you only examine the stone with a loupe, you will never be able to tell the difference. No point putting money into something you can't see.

Still, I'd echo what F&I said... look around a little more, and try to see some in person if you can to help you narrow your parameters on color and clarity...

Hope that helps!

This may sounds weird, but given size a seriously wide range of grades would look just as great (white, bright, clean, what not) when set. And since the price of H and D looks the same, why not D-color ? The difference between clarity grades up VS1 seems purely theoretical to me.

All in all, the weight, not the color or clarity would most influence price around this 0.5 cts (or 5mm diameter, whichever, as long as the cut is given tops) mark, so let it be as good on paper as GIA says it can .

This does it off the list with #3, and then there is some difference of size between #1 and #2, which will likely show somewhat.

I would have liked to find a stone between 0.45 and 0.5 cts, about 5mm diameter, D-F, VS2 or better on the list But the one in the picture one sounds good too. Based on size alone, the D-VSyou have picked is the contender and then THIS, perhaps...

And I say, let the diamond be as big on paper & *appear* as nice off.

The spread of that D at .40c & the spread of the G .57 will be fairly noticeable, while the clarity & color appearance will be minimal.

To Sami, Is this for an engagement ring? Is size an issue? What do you want to accomplish? What are your priorities. There are lots of options out there.

Thanks for the replys, to me I dont see that much different in color when the stone is in the setting, so I dont mind buying even H color, but I would like it to have good cut. Also the size should be under 0.5 carat, my girlfriend liked a stone of 0.25, (might sound silly to you), so I dont want to buy too big stone.

My mind is on DeBeers signature ring at the moment, but not sure about their cuts. Havent found similar on the net.

I dont know much of the ideal measurements YET, thats why I'm asking your opinion (still learning).

... this is the lost pic from above. And I would definitely like to dissect the details of cut on these three, of course

It's funy that the one stone with no pictures comes from GOG's list - after all this is the address for a real damond database .

And then, there is THIS. Don't ask why I have't seen the stone in the firts place as a contender worth noting. But 5mm, F-VS2, AGS0, $ 1400 sounds good to me. And this is the LIST it comes from...

Since you want to stay under .50, I'm liking that D/VS stone. Are you stretching your budget with that?

that 1500 is good starting point for a student, but probably end up spending little more, depending on how I find stones. I am definately getting platinum ring, so its going to cost together 3000 i would say.

Hey, that sounds quite reasonable to me -- very practical in terms of wearability, since you can get a setting where it won't stick up too much. There's nothing silly there
