I just received a pricequote for two pretty sapphires for a certain ering and .... YOUCH. I had to reach down and make sure my rear was still attached- the stones cost MORE than the custom made ring and nearly 50% the cost of the stone. Which wouldn't be terribly bad except for the fact it puts me nearly 60% over budget. *sigh* At this point I'm ready to beg for synthetics... are there any practical reasons that I'm not aware of for avoiding said synths? Or should 1400$ for a pair of 4.5mm rounds with great colour not surprise me? Thanks in advance! (see http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=10264&item=4908922429&rd=1 for a synthetic I was looking at) |

That price does seem just a tad high. Hold onto your rear and do some more shopping. There are more vendors that carry the sapphires you are looking for.

I do not know what exactly you asked for, but that is quite allot for a pair of small stones. To be honest, the price makes me curious - of course some merchandise would be worth it, but to get from there to a pair of synthetics is quite a gap... I cannot see any issue with sims, as long as they are cut well - why would one want to spare that material ? And Iw ould rather see the stone sthat I am buying, not a generic pic (like on the Ebay page you prompted). Would it be possible to find anything of interest between these trillions or these, and ovals, princess cuts and rounds ? Also, down the first link there is a pair of rounds (no picture) at 1000 which do sound promissing - given my expectations from this shop. If your quote comes from Walter Arnstein, by any chance, it may be worth notig that this shop makes a notable difference between ever so slight pedigree marks (such as "blue" and "violetish-blue" for color) that most other mortals would ignore. There used to be some very nice and reasonable pieces among their pairs... if any is close to what you want. Otherwise, maybe Wink Jones could help with a pair of nicely cut lab sapphire? If anything would look like incredibly perfect sapphire - that it ![]() Ana "The greatest experts are only as good as the sum total of what they have seen." [Souren Melikian] |

It is not that small sapphire are that much of a rarity... but your request is for an unusual but desirable item: a pair of small loose rounds! Those could likely be found more easily mounted in earrings than loose. If anything, I would drop the Q at Multicolour (at least there is enough in their stock to carve out a pair - and the shop does cut at least some of it's stones)... Do you know what "Color Gemstone Nut" did to get his pair of sapphires? Ana "The greatest experts are only as good as the sum total of what they have seen." [Souren Melikian] |
