Hoping some of the experts could advise me on how to proceed . . .Last month was my 11 years anniversary and I finally got the ring of my dreams. I fell in love with a Verragio setting and ordered it online from an authorized dealer. It looked beautiful, great quaility, had it appraised and insured. Well, last week I started to notice a very small black spot on one of the baguettes. This same baguette also seems to sit higher than on the other side, there's a small space bewteen the stone and the metal. I really studied the setting and am sure I would have noticed it sooner. Could I have possibly damaged my sidestone in any way to cause an inclusion like this? I'm not sure how to proceed. The jeweler has a 14 day return policy (I've had it almost 30 days) but I also understand that Verragio sidestones have a VS clarity. I guess my question is: do you think I could have caused this sort of spot and if not can I expect the jewler or Verragio to replace it? Also, could the ring getting dirty by my wearing it have made this inclusion more visible? It seems less obvious when the ring is cleaned. Thanks so much for any advice you all can give. Patti |

In my opinion, I think you should take the ring back to the jewelers and tell them of your concerns. The spot could just be some dirt you got on the stone, and after they professionally clean it, they should be able to tell you if it is an inclusion or just dirt. It is possible that you damaged it, but it is hard to say.. do you remember banging your hand really hard against something? If you have a trustworthy vendor, then they should be able to help you out. Hope that helps..

Thanks for your thoughts. . I also thought having it cleaned professionaly should be my first step. I'd hate to make a fuss over a piece of dirt although I'm doubtful that this is the problem. I don't recall having bumped the ring and am usually pretty cautious when I'm wearing it. The center stone is fairly large and I generally only wear it when I'm out or if I'm just sitting around the house. I guess I'm off to my local jeweler to have it cleaned and see what they think and if they recall having seen it when it was set. Thanks again. Patti

It's been a few days since your first posts... i hope you are still reading PS.
Did cleaning the ring help?
I'm curious, which Verragio do you have? I have 8010. This is our second ring. Our first ring had some major flaws.. (jeweler or Verrgaio??)

Be sure to ONLY have the ring cleaned or worked on by the original selling store. Don't give them the opportunity to imply that you or another retailer damaged the ring or changed a diamond. Whatever it takes, allow the original seller the opportunity to correct the problem.. It could just be a speck of dirt. It could be damage. It could be a whole lot of little issues. Just don't let it spin out of control. No doubt it can be fixed and it seems impossible to believe it a major problem. In the worst case, you can send it to my office and we will assess what is wrong or what can be done. No charge to look and suggest. I would hate to see anyone get lost in the maze of dilemmas we have seen over the years. Take it one step at a time and DO NOT WORRY> David S. Atlas |

Well I took the ring to a jeweler yesterday, they cleaned it and the spot was still there. She brought it over to another associate to look at and he seemed a little perplexed also. He thought it may be that the metal under the baguette had a rough spot that was reflecting onto the diamond. He wanted to try to clean it again himself and sure enough, it was dirt!  I was so relieved!This still leaves me with the problem of one baguette sitting up higher than the other. I wonder if this is how the dirt got lodged under there to begin with? The jeweler I saw yesterday thought that the gap compromised the safety of the baguette - they're so fragile to begin with. I'm debating if I want to part with my ring to have it repaired, I don't feel comfortable shipping it back and forth. I'm just glad for the moment that the spot is gone! PK& Sweets: I have ENG-0197. I loved so many of their rings it was hard to choose! Sorry to hear that you have had problems - Did you post your story here before? I remember someone posting of a bad experience shortly after recieving their ring. It seemed hard to say whether it was the jeweler and/or Verragio. Hope your second one is a keeper! Patti

Thanks Dave - I didn't see your post before I left my last message. I guess it's too late to take your advice but I can definately appreciate the value of it! I was reluctant to ship my ring back to the jeweler and then have them possibly ship it again to Verragio etc... It's not the setting so much as my concern for my center diamond. It's a 2.33 ct OEC with good color and clarity (I know thru lurking you are the expert in the area of older cuts). It's been in my husbands family for years and I'd die if I was responsible for losing it! If I took the center diamond out before shipping it, would that damage or compromise the safety of the prongs later? I may have to have the baguette adjusted. At any rate, I'm relieved that it was just a speck of dirt! Thanks again for the advice. Patti
