I finally got an unheated sapphire ( have been looking for a while) It's a dark blue, from Burma, about 7x6 mm and really shimmers when it moves. The photo makes it look a little bit darker than it does in person. I think I need to do a good outdoor photo shoot. I'd like to put it into a ring but I'm not quite sure what type of setting would look good. I'd consider a simple solitaire type setting but I'm not sure if it would look good alone or not? Also if I did get accent stones I'm not sure if it would be best with small diamonds or small colored stones. Any ideas. I like simple settings.

I would set it in a simple 4 prong basket setting with a small tapered shank it would likely have to be custom made but with off the shelf parts available it wouldnt be that much more than stock settings.
With a stone that large and that pretty, accent stones who need em??

Oh those blues! There's never enough...

I think the model below came from Peter Indorf (LINK) but I would not bet - it just happens to be one of the rings I tried on (a yellow gold version) and regret not to have

Perhaps it's a personal thing.

But, personally :^), tiny diamonds help enhance a blue sapphire stone. But they must be real carbon with life.

You may need to take into account your physique, or maybe that of the ring finger. On a really skinny person, young or old, a simple sapphire by itself might work. On a long finger, you may wish to lengthen the look of the jewelry along the direction of the finger. With a fatter finger, you may wish to enhance a small stone with diamonds so that the size of the jewel piece looks just right with the finger itself.

Then also there's the image side. Perhaps a lady wants to project an aura of class. Diamonds would help. To be fashionable, add in tiny red and/or green stones.

Hey, how is it I feel I'm talking like a salesman? :^(

Speaking of colored accents... green and blue was definitely not my idea to beging with, but the ring below (LINK) remained memorable for quite a while

The trillions in the picture are pairs of tsavorite garnet and the proportions should be about right (those are 5mm or less per side).
