hmmm, just wondering...can I have my 2ctw. centerstone set in a Tacori setting? Will they do that? I know when I went to Jared's they said that all of their Tacori settings were set with cz centerstone for the showcase but not sure why.

Do you think just the setting will be terribly expensive?

Tacori certainly isn't one of the cheaper settings designers out there. There is a slightly cheaper imitator at coastdiamonds.com. You can find prices on the web (not on the Tacori site, but just search for Tacori on google, and several sites carry a very wide range of settings, and have the prices there). I don't see any reason why they wouldn't set your CZ, since they set diamonds.

As for why they're set for the showcase, Tacori custom-makes each setting for the stone, so some jewelers get them set for the showcase, some don't. This is one of the reasons they're not cheap, most likely. All the advertising probably doesn't hurt either. A rather simple (but heavy) solitaire setting (which is what I'm planning to get) with very nice engraving runs ~$1500 in platinum. Some settings are available in white gold, and some have diamonds, so the prices vary widely.

Edit: I'm referring to this setting, btw. It doesn't look as scary as in the grainy scanned picture

Oh no no, I don't have a cz diamond but in the store I thought it was strange that they had these beautiful rings set in CZ. I didn't know if there was a reason. Also, most of the stones were less than a 2ctw so i didn't know if my stone would make the ring too heavy.
Anyway, I will definitely check out coastdiamonds.com! oooh, $1500 isn't bad at all for just the setting!

It's because they'll have to make a custom one for your stone anyway, so why bother setting a diamond in it in the first place? (or so would be my guess)

I wouldn't worry about the weight of the stone -- a big diamond is still very, very light! (just relatively heavy) The platinum will be a lot heavier. The setting doesn't change all that much to accomodate a larger stone, so it's not like it'll be dragging down your arm or anything. I find solid platinum gives the ring a nice heft, but it's a matter of taste for sure. If you've tried them on, you'll know if it's your preference or not.

Many designers, including Tacori, set CZ center stones as "place holders" in the rings that are bought by the jewelry stores to demonstrate the line. We have the CZ's soft set in the heads as opposed to having the heads cut to hold the CZ's securely so that we can still set a diamond in the ring properly... We asked Tacori not to set CZ's in the rings at all, but they won't do that. We suppose that they insist on doing so because they are convinced that people just can't imagine what the rings might look like with a diamond set in them

Tacori will custom alter most of their rings to accomodate different size center stones for a reasonable fee - $125.00 seems to be about the average cost for doing so, but that amount will vary depending on the actual style and the size of the center stone...

There are many knock-off's of Tacori designs and we have to say that we've seen most of them... And we've replaced many of them with the actual Tacori design for people who have unsuccessfully tried to cut that corner. Check out the designs in-person if possible and then decide which ring manufacturer you want to work with, that's our best advice.
