As per my previous post I have purchased a 3.05ct D SI1 Brilliant cut stone HEarts and Arrows ideal cut. I am over the moon and now need to set it. I was thinking of a thin band setting with 4 x .10ct diamonds claw set into the band. I like pink diamonds and was thinking 2 of the 4 being pink. So you would have centre stone with a pink .10ct on either side flanked with another white .10ct next to that. Anyone seen such a setting and would it look good. Sorry Mira but along the lines of your ring which I love. Would 4 side stones be enough. Would .10ct be a good balance for centre stone. Would I make them D SI1 as well Thanks Vinka

Sounds good to me  ... as does THIS close peer of the setting you describe. I would just make sure the sides are not hidden under the center stone if the setting is eitehr high or tappered (which is likely given the size of the ceneter) - so the pinks may be the outer set of sides, not the first. But this can be decided on-going, as the maker of the setting presents the wax model of the setting (or the setting itself) before the stones are set. Also, you may wnat to take into account what those "fancy pink" look like - most people expect a more pronounced shade of color (as "fancy yellow" would be).  Pictures on the screen are not great for judging what colored diamonds look like, but THIS looks about right on my screen... for what's that worth.Ana "The greatest experts are only as good as the sum total of what they have seen." I thought of pink saphires as I like the colour but thought they may not sparkle as much as the diamonds? I love the photo you took above Valeria. Did you make that up or did you find it somewhere? The .10 pink diamonds I have seen are very very pale and not quite the look I want - they look a bit dirty against the D colour of the centre stone. The jeweller is going to try and find some darker ones. However the other ones you showed Valeria look a bit purple - again not quite the look I want. Maybe I'd be safer to just have 4 x white diamonds and let the centre stone sing? What do you think?

There is a thread in the Show me the ring forum that shows some nice pinks in a platinum ring. These are not inexpensive stones, but can be had in the .10ct size as well. The color is intense and you are correct that the diamonds will sparkle more than sapphires, which are a little softer in color. Wink Wink Jones |

Thanks Wink That ring is gorgeous. I really really like the pink diamonds. Anyone else seen anything with a pink diamond compliment to the centre stone> Or know of any links Really appreciate it. Vinka

The picture is indeed made up... and it may well be that you would want "fancy intense" to get better color. I would think all-white is very much ok too! Also, while sapphires do not have the same properties as diamonds, the color is there 300% and the cut of sapphires would make a difference as well. Aside pink diamonds, it must be pink spinel that has the most color and sparkle (a bit more than sapphire). Anyway - for some reason quite a few designers make settings with some trace of pink. Of course, those pinks will have the same color you have seen only pink gold settings may enhance it on occasion. Examples may come from Icestore, Beaudry (more models with pink diamonds are listed all over the web)... As for the purplish shade - it needn't be there, but purplish-pink is what is considered top among pink diamonds not "pink" full stop. And orange-pink and brownish-pink make for slight shades and allot of price difference. You may find a chart on this range of color HERE, but other combinations are possible and may produce and stronger apparent color than the traditionally prized but often faint purple-pink ones. As far as I can see, each seller has it's own recipe to present brighter color-still-sellable pinks: either clarity stands high and the color shades gets light (Wink's ring), or the other way around (Josef Herskovits), or you get stones with some overtone that keeps them out of the premier league of fancy purplish pinks (others). The second combination sounds better to me for small stones, and the third sounds better for anything - if you can get those Did you see THIS right here and Wink's ? Hope this helps... Thanks Giangi that sight was really helpful giving me an idea of costings etc. Valeria I had seen the IceStore site which is where I got the idea. The 2 rings on that front page are beautiful and that fine look is what I'm after. The Argyle Mines site was also helpful and I can then name the colour I want to the jeweller. Joseph Herskovits is the owner of that company. Seems to be a rather large one, actually. I have exchanged emails with Leibish & Yossi Polnauer (the sales directors, I think) and they were really nice. But I have not bought anything from them - did not have the right stone at the right time.

Pink sapphire are not considered to be at their absolute best when looking like pink diamonds - but sometimes they are cut and set to mimic pink diamonds. I know that in theory sapphire and diamond should look different - but how often does one see small light pink sapphire cut and set like diamonds? Since dispersion tells these two stones apart the most and that is less obvious in colored stones... well, you might want to take a look HERE for an example - not the ring itself, but the cut and appearence of pink sapphires. My engagement ring has a round cut center stone, with a heart-shaped diamond on each side, with 4 small, prong-set, natural pink diamonds flowing out of each of the hearts. I think it looks gorgeous, and I get a ton of compliments on it. Because the pink diamonds are natural, they're not bright pink (although maybe some natural pink diamonds are bright pink - i'm no expert), so they don't take away from the center stone. So that's another option to consider--a few smaller stones on each side of the center stone. The pink diamonds are also of different sizes so that they taper back into the heart diamonds. Mine is laid out like this: biggest pink-pink-pink-smallest pink-heart-center round-heart-smallest pink-pink-pink-biggest pink. I hope this makes sense. I think the tapering of the size of pink diamonds makes the ring look delicate without having the glaring pink color on each side of the center stone, which could take away from the center a bit. (And now that the wedding is approaching, we're considering a pink diamond band to complement the pink dimaonds in the engagement ring.) I also remember being told by a jeweler that a gold band brings out the pink color more so than platinum or white gold. My ring is platinum though. I'm not sure what metal you were thinking of going with, but that might be something to think about... Hope this was helpful! Melinda |

Hi Kam, Would love to see a photo of your engagement ring. It sounds gorgeous. My plan was to have a very thin band with white-pink-centre-pink-white. The centre is 3.05cts and I would have the 4 side stones as .10pt's Seems difficult to get the right shade of pink so I may just go all white stones. Vinka
