Okay, Just for curiousity I went into these stores, after reading a bunch of recommendation posts here. And this is what was available: Willow Glen .48 E SI3 for $1008 not certified, but was appraised by them, quoted "they are GIA certified specialists". I was able to take a look and wear it outside there door at the real sunlight. Sparkled great and was a very clear stone. She had said for the same price loose stone I could get a G SI1 or SI2. Joe Escobar .52 I I1 for $1045 not certified, but was appraised by them, I was also able to wear it in the outisde sunlight. Sparkled, but was a cloudy. I asked for the same price for a loose stone, all she had in stock was a .43 VS2, but was small for me. Looking at the difference, was a lot. Derco My previous post stated, they showed me a .53 F SI2 for $1161 GIA certified, but was told, not a good one by posters, so I went back the other day, took a look at that one, then asked to see a AGS0 for the same price, as told by one from my old post, they kind of got a little shock when I asked them for that, he then showed me a .48 AGS0 F, SI1, Ideal cut. then went on and on and showed me both certificates GIA and AGS it comes with, showed me the diamond through an Ideal-scope, up front and not through pictures, which was really cool. The depth I remember for the AGS certificate was 60.7 or 8 and the Table was 55. Ive priced the exact same diamonds to price advisory and it showed $931 for the diamond alone. all above prices with chain/pendant included. My question is, These stores were recommended by you, now does that mean their diamonds are legit, or should I speculate like a regular B&M store. Though WG and Joe escobar diamonds are not certified, is it worth buying. Can I trust their diamonds over any B&M store. Looking at them in the real sunlight was great under the natural outside lighting. Out of the three my top choices are Willow GLen, non-certified and Derco. What do you think? |

We're not familiar with WG, but Derco's and Joe Escobar have pretty good reputations. Do they have any GIA or AGS graded diamonds to offer you? If not, they certainly could get a few in for you to consider... GIA & AGS graded diamonds tend to be more accurate IMO than those graded by EGL. Does the JE graded diamond exhibit fluorescence? A high degree of fluorescence would explain why it might appear cloudy in direct sunlight. Recipe for success: Consider only diamonds graded by the GIA or AGS. Obtain proportions analysis indicating the crown and pavilion angles. Have the diamond evaluated by an independent Gemologist. See appraisers link at the top of this page. Todd L. Gray, President |

Thanks, Robin & Todd, that might be the reason why for JE's diamond it looked cloudy. I don't recall asking them about that. However, they didnt have any certified stones in stock, just as WG. I guess I could settle for a G-H SI1 or SI2 certified stone, even though its not the E-F that I got quoted on. I'll be sure to take this tips into effect, from now on. Certified all the way. You've been a great help!

I trust that JE and Derco have very nice stones. at derco, you can bet that they will give you a nice ideal cut stone..since i know from experience that they actually know what you mean. Like all B&M stores though, you have to go in armed with knowledge. Just check out the certs (AGS if possible) and get some numbers..bring them back and give us a report! good luck!
