You know how a ring presentation box can snap shut violently due to the person losing their grip on the bottom of the box whilst still holding the top lid of the box. Well can this damage a diamond cluster ring which is in the box at the time?

Hi,

Anything is possible, although it sounds unlikely because the top inside of most boxes are padded.

However, Many "cluster rings" are shoddily put together and prone to easy damage.

Can you post a pic?

I do not have anyway of posting pictures. The top of the box is not padded, it just has some satin in it.

Is it damage that was possibly caused by stone on stone contact like a chip in an invisible setting between stones?

Can you describe the damage ?

No there is a small chip on one of the tiny stones which may have always been there I am now thinking. The band looks a bit bent at the bottom. Would the bottom of the box affect the ring or would it just be the lid part?

Hi again,

The only scenario I can imagine a box causing the damage you described would be:

If the ring was too tall for the box and "bottomed out" if closed forcibly , hitting the metal bottom or top.

More likely , the chip was already there.

Thank you again.

Yes, I think I am only noticing the chip now as I have looked for it. It is an inexpensive dress ring. The band has probably always been a bit bent since the ring was sized.
