First of all, let me say how much help these forums have been for me in my quest for a perfect first diamond. This question is a bit of an opinion matter I know. I am in the market to buy a diamond for an engagement ring. Now personally, I don't like standard round cut. I prefer something more square. I've looked at Radiant and Princess diamonds. The Radiant seemed to me to have a bit more fire and flare to them. However, I haven't been able to find a good Asscher to compare side by side. Do you guys have an opinion on how these three (princess, Radiant, Asscher) compare as far as "sparkle" factor? Thanks Corey |

With all these shapes it really depends on the cut. And, most importantly, you need to find a stone that you love. There's a link here on PS that compares princess stones with radiants: http://www.pricescope.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=16396&forumID=3&catID=&search=1&searchstring=&sessionID={177AC492-3607-47BC-AC51-2D8516377C22} As for asscher cuts, I don't know much about them but believe they are step cut like an emerald with a look similar to a hall of mirrors. Also, have you seen the jubilee from Good Old Gold? It's a beautiful cut!

Like you, my GF said she didn't really like the standard round diamond and prefered something square. Not knowing much about diamonds I started looking at princess cuts since that's what the local stores had. I soon found this forum and learned about what makes a great princess cut diamond. I also found it hard to find a really nice one in my size and cost range. Because of this I started looking at the other square shaped cuts. Of those the Jubilee looked the best and I'm now in the process of purchasing one. Good Old Gold's website lists several different square shapes: http://www.goodoldgold.com/ Good luck in your search.

I don't mean to throw more options your way but cushion cuts are becoming very big right now. I love the Ascher for it's antique feel. And lemme tell you, it's no shortage on sparkle when you see it in person. It all depends on your priorities, budget, and personal tastes. Square rings can look more modern. Rectangular shapes can make your fingers look longer. Princess, Radiant, and Ascher will look nothing like each other side by side. Look inthe Show Me The Ring folder and you'll see just about everything there is! VH (aka GroomZilla) |
