i'm thinking about buying the following diamond at a B&M store: Emerald shape Ideal cut (depth and table are around 65% each) 1.55 carat G VS1 (2 feather inclusions, on bottom of stone, barely noticeable under 15x magnification) The asking price is $11,425 which is supposedly 20% profit, which would put wholesale price around $9,520. Is this a fair price? I'm not looking for a steal (I know I pay a bit more for a B&M place), but I am also not looking to get ripped off. |

If you get exact dimensions (LxWxD), table and depth %'s, crown height, girdle thickness, polish and symmetry ratings, you can use the DIY system at www.gemappraisers.com to grade the Cut Class. You can also search Price Scope listings for comparable diamonds currently available to check for prices being asked or check Price Stats to find the price/carat. If the table and depth are indeed 65%/65% and everything else about the cut rates well, comparable diamonds are currently trading for around $9K. Why use a big word when a diminutive word would be succinct! |
