Hello, Can someone explain the difference between these two cuts? We seem to be getting different stories from different jewelers. Most people tell us that old mine cuts and old cushion cuts are the same thing, and then modern cushion cuts are something different. Is this true? In old cuts, is there a difference between old mine cuts, and cushion cuts? Thank you in advance for any clarification. Robyn

As far as I know, "Cushion cut" is a generic name applied to different cut models that have in common a rectangular outline and rounded corners. The Old Miner cut also fits this profile. THIS lineup may give you an idea of just how diverse those "cushion cuts" are.I do not think there was something called "cushion cut" when the old miner's was modern ![]() Ana "The greatest experts are only as good as the sum total of what they have seen." As Valeria said, an Old Mine Cut is a cushion cut. The cushion describes the shape, so you can get all sorts of cushion cuts that look rather different except for that cushion-y outline. Sort of like, uh, fabric can be silk, but it can be silk duponi, or silk sateen, etc.
