My mom and her friends have used a jeweler who does entirely custom work in gold and platinum from what I've seen, and a good job of it too. I actually almost had a setting made by them for my engagement ring, but my SO thought it was "too flashy", becasue it had both sidestones AND channel-set diamonds in the band (he has no imagination about what happens when you make the center stone 1/2 ct smaller and all the other diamonds get smaller in proportion! ).

In any case, this place is at least worth checking out. I'm not sure how they are in pricing, but my mom specifically took me there when I came for a visit, and told me that the price of their work was more than worth it, and Dean seemed very competent.

It's Dean's Designs, on 328 Main Street in Los Altos. Phone 650 941 8280.

im not sure if they need to be in san jose, but in the bay area, there a few that have been recommended. One is Toppers in Burlingame..i have a friend who had her wedding band made by them, and it look fantastic! they were very easy to work with..busy...but always made sure she was happy with the results. they want you to be 100% satisfied, and will change it until you are!
The other one is in San Carlos, called Geoffreys. They have also been mentioned here on PS a few times, and those that have used them for custom pieces are very satisfied with the work. They are also the only other vendor that carries the Jubilee so far besides GOG i think! give them a call..you can google them and look up their phone numbers..sorry, dont have them on hand..
good luck!

also Joe Escobar (Escobar Diamonds) in campbell does custom work and i personally go to willow glen jewelers (though they are called something else now..) on lincoln avenue for all my small jewelry stuff (e.g. fix a chain, tighten a prong), i believe they do custom as well. joe E is more of a larger scale store and the WG store is more family boutique. they sell eightstars at WG as well!

we had ours made custom in Aptos, CA at Garrett Jewelers, Jeff is the owner. if you call, tell him that I sent you. you may get a better price, hehee.

good luck!

I had my ring custom made by Joe Escobars and was very happy with the quality and service. This was years ago, when they were in their old location. They seem to be bigger now, but if Joe E is still personally involved, I'm sure they would do good work.

How lucky, I had the exact same question. Guess I'll be visiting Joe's and Geoffrey's this weekend.
