Double post from one in Show Me the Ring, but the basic question is what wedding band would you get for this 3 stone ering with a budget of about $3000?

Anything wrong with a plain platinum band?

Then, it does matter how you are planning to wear it: for example, mine never quits the hand and this pretty much overruled intricate design. Bar such practicality reasons, engraving comes as the next best option on my list.... would contain carved (or look-alike) details such as This or These. These are not very small, and would work alone rather then near a ring, but engraving does retain some of the feel and would, look well near a ring (something like THESE).

Just my 0.2 opinion, it all is a matter of taste and preference, I would think.

Or going the other way and getting either a channel set (round or princess) to match the three stones) eternity wedding band, or something like it...? if that's too much diamond, she can get one half way around?

Dammit - I cannot, for the LIFE of me, figure out how to collage these pics, so I'll post them separately.

This is a ring I tried on this weekend with my 3-stone...it's 7-stone, .54 cwt.

........and a profile shot.  I really want a straight band, so the key is finding one that's LOW profile so it sits as close as possible to the ring.

I really have a thing about seeing a huge gap, too, so I know the challenge, but I have to say this band fit very well with my 3-stone.

This is what a band of 3-pointers looks like with my 3-stone ring. Mine is also the Vatche basket setting.

as i recall, your lucky fiance has tiny fingers...size 4ish. i have done your exact ring for larger women (1.75 to 2.5 center stones with .8 to .65 sides...size 5 1/2 to 6ish) with 5 or 7 .22 to .25 ct stones, and basically it would cover the top of the finger and nothing else. i've also done .20, .15, and .12 each eternity style, which works well proportionally with the ring.

with her size hand, i would do something much more subdued....03 or .05 common prong eternity style. i also have a size 4 finger and very long slender hands. i know the proportions of the ring you purchased (one of my favorites btw), and fear that anything bigger than .07 each simply may not fit (the width of the two rings may exceed the length avaliable from her knuckle to palm.....a good problem to have!). in fact, when we were deciding on the proportions for my ring, we decided on slightly smaller side stones b/c the bridge of the ring was wider than my finger!

good luck!

I would do the teensiest diamond band I could find. I mean, the ring speaks for itself...and you know what, I might also do the thinnest possible platinum band like ana suggested...and get a nice big diamond band for the right hand!!!!!

Aljdewey, is your beautiful 7 stone band the one from whiteflash pictured below or did you get yours from a local B&M?

As for my FI and I, we're thinking about buying from a local B&M so that we can get polishing/cleaning/repairs on both the band and the ering.

Patty, I know very well your's is the Vatche 3 stone basket set since it was YOUR ring which inspired me to go with the same design .

valerie101, thanx for the great links but you know how it is with diamonds: once you fall in love with them, its hard to go back to a plain platinum setting. Sparkles are addicting .

Hi, Squire:  Actually, the 7-stone band pictured is the one I tried on at a local B&M this weekend....I was trying to decide between a plain gold band or one with diamonds.  I don't want anything that takes away from the MASTERPIECE e-ring that WF custom-designed for me.

However, I won't be buying from the local B&M for a few reasons.  To make the ring in 18K/platinum with non-ideal stones, the B&M will charge nearly DOUBLE what I'll pay with WF for a ring (and the WF ring comes with top-quality stones....the B&M doesn't).

Second, by going with WF, he'll be able to match the shank of the w-band  to the shank of the e-ring they just made for me.

I do have a local jeweler who can do repairs for me and polishing.....and even if I pay a fee for those services, there's NO WAY those fees will exceed the money I save by going with WF.

Most important, I'm completely impressed with the superior workmanship and the customer service (driving Brian absolutely CRAZY on the phone!)  I get from WF, and to me, that's priceless.  They have earned my business many times over.

Ah, squire...I'm glad my Vatche was an inspiration to you!

I like mmm's idea of going with a band of tiny diamonds. I'd do an eternity style so you don't have to worry about them lining up correctly. It would add some sparkle but not draw attention away from the mega-ring!

I'd actually recommend against an eternity setting.  If you are planning to have children, the ring may not fit her properly after pregnancy and you cannot resize it.  Same thing on the heirloom potential....it cannot be sized to fit a daughter she may leave it to.

If it HAS to give the appearance of going all the way around, I'd go with a 3/4 eternity instead....gives the look of eternity but still able to be sized.

Honestly, I found that eternity style didn't look right with my e-ring.  The 7-stone seemed to be a better match because you could see a small bit of the shank on either side.

Hehehe - *I* am so anal that I wanted to design a 6-stone ring so the stones would not extend beyond my side stones!!!  However, I realize that even the TINIEST movement of one's hand will throw that off, so the 7th stone is kind of like "insurance" for me.

OH......and P.S. ....the ring pictured on my photos is a shared-prong ring.  I found that a full-prong setting looked too busy with my stones.

Okay, okay...good points, al. I like the idea of them going around enough that you don't have to worry about them lining up correctly.

My ring with the 12 3-point stones goes about 2/3rds of the way around. I had it sized down so it fits pretty snugly and it usually stays in position now. Spinning really annoys me!

Oh, you have no idea......what a psycho I can be.  God, I think I've single-handedly cause the drinking problem that I'm sure Brian is contemplating having becase I've driven him mad.       He's spent 3 weeks talking me off the ledge about how I can't STAND any gap and how it's gonna happen no matter what I do because the rings move on the hand.

So then I come out with "well, I don't want the last stone to go beyond my side stones.....that would drive me CRAZY."  I thought he was going to reach through the phone and strangle me (or perhaps I just thought he would have been justified if he had!)    I finally tried on a 7-stone this weekend, and initially I didn't like it because the 7th diamond was too far......but then I thought about how MENTAL I would get if there were only six stones and they didn't line up PRECISELY SO to the sides on my e-ring....and well, for sanity's sake, decided the 7th stone is a keeper.

Spinning annoys the heck out of me, too, but this 7-stone seemed to stay put pretty well because the diamonds just spanned the finger.  hehehe - we'll see.

al, I think that the 7 stone you posted here looks great with your 3-stone!

I actually like a little gap between the two rings.

AH......Patty, music to my ears.  Really.....I should PAY you for saying so!

I worried when I got my e-ring back that having diamonds in the band would be a bit too much.  I don't want to look like one of those "volume eclipses taste" folks.....you know, we've all seen them.....and worried that putting ANY diamonds in the band would run into that territory.

I was leaning toward a plain 3mm gold band.....and that nearly sent MARA over the edge.....she actually had the gall to threaten to REVOKE my diamond buying privileges!!!!  (Can you believe that girl??!!  )

Adding to that were two of my friends (who are NOT jewelry fanatics) telling me they thought my e-ring itself was "over the top".

But then I came to my senses and asked my friend with TASTE to help me pick something, and we decided that yes, the diamond band DID look fine with my ring......in fact, she said she thought it was stunning.....and I was SO HAPPY because I reeeeeeeeally wanted diamonds in my band too.

So thanks........nice to hear a voice of support for the bling!

The pics you posted look lovely, AL.

Are you going to go with that size stone in your band?? Or have you decided yet??

I am struggling with the SAME thing. I just can't make up my mind. I'm sooooo glad that Mara threatened you and your friend helped you come to your senses!!! If only I could decide!! What to do??!! What to do??!!

Patty,...... In your 3 point ring pic above,...... How many stones on the top of your finger. Sooooo much sparklies I couldn't count them!!

Why use a big word when a diminutive word would be succinct!

al, I'm glad to be of assistance! I think the 7-stone band really compliments your 3-stone ring.

When I first got my 3-stone ring, I bought a plain 2mm white gold band to wear with it. Now that I have the band of little diamonds, though, I think the plain skinny band looks too "plain" with it.

pq, I've had the little band of 3-pointers sized down since that pic was taken so the band curves down more now. I'm sitting here trying to count how many go across the top. When pinky and tall-man are right next to ring-man , there are 8 or 9 of the 3-pointers showing across the top of the finger.

I also counted the wrinkles going across the top of my finger. There are 8,972 of those.

PQ....I have FINALLY, FINALLY decided - YAY.

I'm going with a 7-stone band with WF....5-pointers.  The band will be 2.5mm (my ering shank is 3mm).  Anything smaller looked too small (wasn't balanced right), and anything larger looked like too much.

I also didn't like eternity style...it just didn't look right if the stones extended that far beyond my side stones and ran around the finger.  The 7-stone just spans the finger with a touch of shank on either side to spare.

I sent Brian the battlecry this morning.......make the ring!  YAY!  I am SO excited.

The w-ring will follow the same feel as the e-ring in the slight knife-edge to the shank; 18K yellow shank and platinum heads.  Shared prongs.

I couldn't be happier with work WF has done for me.  Truly amazing stuff.

al, that sounds PERFECT. When I look at the pic of the 7 stone that you posted I think it looks great, but I also think that slightly smaller stones might look a bit better. Good choice!

Yes, pq...that macro mode is the pits. I'm always amazed when I see beautiful smooth hands in macro mode. Can you imagine how nice those hands must be in real life? Mine have always been wrinkly...even when I was young. Oh well...all the more reason to get sparklies to distract from that.

You just got to check one more item off your "To Do List" Al!! Way Kewl!!

You will have to post pics when you get the ring. Can't wait to see it. Your 3 stone came out gorgeous!!

I know what you mean, Patty! Mother Nature was definitely kinder to some folks than others. I have always had loose folds on my hands. Even when my hands are just resting, there are these loose folds of baggy skin here and there. Old woman's hands, I always thought. And age ain't helpin' one bit!!
