This website has been a super help as I searched for a diamond for my lovely fiancee.

I put a hold on a diamond from a B&M in another state. I had them ship it to a reputable appraiser.

I got the appraiser's report and liked the diamond so I had it set by the B&M that sold me the diamond and they sent it to me.

The ring looks great (pictures soon) and I know the B&M has a high-quality reputation. I'm not thinking that they would gem-switch on me, but I do think people make mistakes sometimes.

Is it worth it to bring the ring to a local jeweler to verify that the cert matches the diamond? How do I know that the local jeweler won't do a switcheroo? If anyone could recommend a reputable vendor in Las Vegas, I'd love to hear about it.

I guess I'm a little paranoid after spending all this money on the diamond.

Could someone offer an opinion? Thanks in advance.

Take it to an independent appraiser, who has no conflict of interest in the situation. I believe they can do a quick and inexpensive check to make sure that the stone matches the certificate, which should ensure your peace of mind

Use an independent appraiser to verify the diamond. Independent appraisers have no vested interest to sell you their diamonds. You can check the appraisers list by clicking the link at the top of the page. If there isn't a PS approved appraiser near you, check out the Yellow Pages, of ask on the Forum for recommendations near where you live. A Cert match verification is an inexpensive, quick check that shouldn't take long at all. The verification will give you peace of mind.

Why use a big word when a diminutive word would be succinct!

Have the jeweler who set the stone show you the inclusions so that the plot matches the stone. You have already had an appraisal. I wouldn't go through it again unless you really want a piece of mind.

This is excellent advice, have the jeweler teach you how to identify your diamond.

Problem solved.

Whats the clarity rating on the stone?
For an si or vs2 and most times vs1 its fairly easy to identify the diamond with a inexpensive 10x loupe.
You can buy them at stamp and coin collection stores or order them online.

Its not a bad idea to have one that way you can occasionaly check your own prongs as well as identify your diamond should you have the ring worked on.
Study how the prongs look new and if you notice a difference down the road its time to have them checked out.
