What price range came up when you stuck these numbers into the first page of pricescope?

Around $6500 - $7500. But many of the links that list at $6500 are dead ;( Also, is the pricescope the best market place to purchase loose diamonds? Sorry, i am new to this forum. Cheers, Peter.

Pricewise, unless have a brother-in-law as a jeweler, it will likely be tough to beat the vendors here, assuming similar stones. At least it gives you an idea if you are in the ballpark.

Thank you for your help!!! On the other hand, I think that there is something else going on. Some dealers list diamonds low, to get listed first on the forum. Try the search yourself and will see that all links of $6500s are dead.

Very well could be. The other thing you'll notice is that the high end of the price spectrum will be dominated by one or two companies, as well, which indicated to me that they were slightly more pricey. I think if you hit the meaty part of the scale, that's a good estimate of what you're looking at. And, remember that the lowest priced diamonds will be the ones with the more prominent inclusions, compared to similarly graded ones found up the price ladder.

You might try calling some of the Pricescope vendors directly--such as Whiteflash, GoodOld Gold, NiceIce, etc. I bought my ring from Whiteflash and am very pleased. It was not a ring they had in their inventory or on the multiple listing. Lesley found it for me through a manufacturer who had not yet listed it. (Also if you mention Pricescope, you will receive a discount from most vendors). There is also a jewelers convention this week in Las Vegas and it might be a good time to contact one of the Pricescope vendors with your specifications and see if they can find something for you there. There is no obligation for you to buy the stone. You can have it sent to an independent appraiser before you pay or you can reject it if it does not sound like what you are looking for. I am very pleased with my purchase and you can see my ring on Show Me the Ring. Several of the Pricescope vendors do not drop ship. They actually have the stone sent to them and then discuss it with you. I found that I wasted a lot of time going through the multiple listings when there is the other option of dealing directly with the vendor over the phone while he actually has the stone in his hand. You can get excellent advice and possibly expand your requirements to a better or larger stone for the price. Hope this helps. Also, if you are considering this particular stone you should have the dealer give you a Sarin or OGI report. The GIA report does not give enough information as to quality of cut. A Sarin or OGI will rate the cut proportions and give you the necessary information to get an idea of the perfomance of the stone. You will not be able to use the HCA cut advisor without this information and it is very helpful. You will find this guide on the Cut Guide listed on this site. By the way, the very thin girdle on this stone might be a problem if you are choosing a pronged setting where the edge of the stone will be exposed.

---------------- This is weird... The lowest price I found was less than $6400 and the link works. You have definitely noticed that "S" and "P" mark on various prices... so quite a few seller swoudl actually match the lowest price listed for teh stone ( = "P"). So if you see a $6500, others will likely offer the same stone for the lowest listed price. It is hard to tell what is the "best place to buy diamonds". PS seems deeply rooted in the belief that each transaction has to be secured 'till the last detail and all stones certified and checked to death - so it sounds safe enough. Besides, F-VS1 are pretty high color and clarity, but you are looking at any random cut grade. Not all 1 carat F-VS1 are born the same - and this definitely has something to do with their prices too. Since cut does influence price, it's good to know what does how before bargain hunting. Discounts can well be a greta deal, or, well, have a good reason. ![]() Ana "The greatest experts are only as good as the sum total of what they have seen." [Souren Melikian] |
