Hello everyone. I wish I'd been familiar with this site when I *bought* the diamond I'm about to sell. Sell I must and to minimize my loss, I'm considering a few strategies and would greatly appreciate expert advice. I have to have the stone regraded (my fiance' lost the original IGI documentation) so I'll send it to the GIA. I'm intending to sell it on ebay and wondered if the plastic case/seal provided by the IGI is an advantage (this would mean not using the GIA, of course). I recall that the stone is .75ct VS1 F from IGI. I'm also considering utilizing Saleslink and wonder if any experts can tell me if this is a worthwhile service considering the rough value of my stone (it may not be worth the expense for nonexceptional gems). This service is referred to as Ebay's "Authenticator precertified diamond program." and gives the buyer additional security in receiving the correct gem. Saleslink is: http://saleslinkapj.saleslink.com/faqs.asp Thanks for any assistance! Steven Personally, I rather look forward to a computer program winning the world chess championship. I'd consider having it recerted through IGI. You'll end up with a higher graded stone than you would through GIA, and if you're selling on eBay, you want to be able to represent the "best" stone you can. Just don't sell to me...

Can't he request a reprinted cert if he has the cert number? I thought I saw GIA did this in one case on an eBay sale.

I'll look into that option, but the certification isn't in my name and the sale was over a year ago. Ebay may make proof of sale difficult. Thanks for the input so far. Any comments about that plastic casing? Is it worth the $30? Or Saleslink? http://saleslinkapj.saleslink.com/ Personally, I rather look forward to a computer program winning the world chess championship. Humanity needs a lesson in humility. |
