As have most of you reading this, I have looked long and hard for a loose diamond for an engagement ring.
I went to purchase the diamond through a source that seemed to be the best bang for the buck and delivered higher quality stones than you would typically find in a retail outlet.
I requested a stone that was at least 1.00ct, VS2, H color, and ideal cut. What I received instead is a diamond that is the following:
Weight: 1.08ct
Depth: 59.5%
Table: 62%
Girdle: Medium, faceted
Cutlet: None
Polish: good
Symmetry: fair to good
Fluorescence: negligible

I had the stone re-certed and diamond grader made me feel as though the stone would loose a lot of the light and therefore not so brilliant. I dont have other stones to compare it with to determine if the reflective light lost is negligible or not.

Finally the question: Was she too harsh or dishing the truth? Should I send it back if quality is most important for me?

I am no expert but the first thing that jumped out at me is the symmetry rating of "fair to good" This sounds like the stone may be out of round, a sign of poor cut...?

If you really want an ideal cut, this isn't it. If you like the look of the stone, maybe it is. It's more important what you think when you look at it than what you think when you look at the cert. Maybe you should go looking at some high end stores and see if you can see a difference. (Look in light other than their bright halogens.)

And, I agree -- the fair to good symmetry does't sit well to me.

Hi,

"I requested a stone that was at least 1.00ct, VS2, H color, and ideal cut."

You received a "commercial" quality cut.

Almost all diamonds are beautiful, as your diamond probably is.

However:

If you paid for an ideal cut, return it.
If the fact that it is not an ideal cut bothers you one iota, return it.

This is a round, I assume. Go to the first page of Pricescope and look at the tutorial. Your stone falls well outside of the parameters of an ideal cut so if you can return it, do.
