Hey Everyone,

I'm going to get engaged at the end of this summer. I'm going engagement ring shopping on a budget and I made the mistake from the start by aimming too high. It's better now, the two of us went engagement ring shopping a week ago at a couple of high end places (Tiffany, Cartier). We were shocked at first on the price, but we settled on a Tiffiany 3 stone ring.

She really likes. I like it, but I would really like to get some more carat size for the price. I really like Tiffiany and Cartier rings, for some reason, the sparkle in the rings are a whole lot better than a lot of the other rings I've seen. They have the same clarity, color, but the tiffiany and Cartier rings sparkle better, I believe it's the setting and cut.

Anyway, my problem is that my budget is $4000 for the ring. I can get a pretty decent Tiffiany ring for the price and she loves it, but I don't like the small diamonds.

I heard about this singedpieces site and wanted to know what the other folks at this site think of it. Seems like I can get a tiffiany/cartier ring around my budget range and still get a decent carat size. Is this signedpieces site a used luxury store? Why do they sell so low? I'm just a little confused on all the information. I mean, if they are selling a Tiffiany for $5000, but it's appraised at $11,000...wouldn't people be rushing to buy these rings and sell them to other people for profits . Just a confused that's all...seems too good to be true. Also, how does the resizing work. Do you even want to resize high end pieces? Her ring she is 5 1/4 and most of the rings there would require resizing for her. Let me know your opinions. I not worrying about it too much though, because the one we picked out she's happy...it's really just my issue.

Oh btw, the ring we picked out was:

Tiffiany & Co. 3 Stong Ring
Sizes: .30/.21/.21
Clarity: VVS2
Color: I
Price $3890.00

I'm not looking for a huge carat size. A .50 size center stone will do it for me.

I figure that I can just get a VS2, I color and it will probably look the same from the naked eye.

Thanks

I don't have experience with signed pieces...but if you are thinking that the tiffany or cartier stones have a secret that makes them sparkle more...it's probably the lighting. Brilliance and fire can be achieved by any ideal cut stone .... and the cut quality you have been seeing outside of Tiffany and Cartier is clearly not on par... go see some ideal cut stones...don't waste your money in my opinion... I'm just practical like that...

Case in point....and I'm so opinionated on this matter...so I'm sorry...to each his own...if she must have a designer ring...well, that;s her choice and it will be beautiful!!!!!! BUT, who knows it's a designer ring? They won't unless you tell them....which is obnoxious!
Just my worthless 2 cents!

Best of luck to you!!! And congrats!!!

There are members on here who have visited Signed Pieces in person in New York and were pleased, and there are others who have bought things from their eBay store as well. Unfortunately I can't remember who these PS members are, but if you run a search on signedpieces some threads should pop up.

My personal feeling is that they are the only eBay seller that I would ever buy jewellery from. In fact, I've been watching their eBay store for months trying to see if they would list a Tiffany etoile diamond band in my size (they listed one last year, but we weren't ready to buy, unfortunately). In the end I had to just plain buy it from Tiffany's.

Their stuff is always genuine, it's just that they get it second hand (estate, divorce, etc). Some people are supersticious about buying a ring second-hand. As for me, I think it's a great way to get brand name stuff for cheap!

The other problem is that you have chosen a specific style of Tiffany ring that you want. They don't have an endless supply of Tiffany rings--it's all about availability. You could wait years to ever see a three-stone that you love pop up on their site. You are more likely to find something if you like the classic six-prong, since there are more of them floating around.

Anyway, if you are set on buying Tiffany, I think that this is a great way to do it.

I have bought a necklace from them on eBay and it was authentic (albeit a bit scratched).

Not everyone will be rushing to buy engagement rings from them because they don't have a wide selection. Also, some people do not like the idea of buying used engagement rings.

If you've found a style you liked, then it's a good deal!

I would buy from signedpieces.com again because I think they're trustworthy.

Thanks for all the quick replies. At least I know they are authetic. It's too bad that they are so far away from me, because I would like to see the ring's condition, especially since they are second hand rings. I'm not going to buy for a few months anyway, so I can wait to see if anything interesting pops up from their site. The two of us talked about how I was feeling about the whole thing. She wouldn't mind a solitare and after calling Tiffiany's for some quotes...a .50 carat solitare runs from the high $3000's to the mid $4000's which is around my budget. I checked several other places that some people on this board recommended for high quality rings and diamonds and they end up a bit cheaper, but I still rather see the ring myself.

Also, I had a question on re-sizing. Most of the rings that are available on the site are too big for her finger. How much is it to resize a ring and is there a drop in quality when you re-size?

If you stop by the place moremoremore, could you see if they will let you take pictures of the place. I'd love to see some pictures of the place and the rings they have.

Thanks

Signedpieces is an awesome company and Marly is really nice to deal with. They have a ton of Big Name labels and you can get it at about 50% discount to what you would really pay for it at Tiffany's. They will only represent items that come with the full certs, boxes etc... so you get the real deal. I know someone who just purchased a 1.5 ct round cartier ring and they only payed about 50% of what it was at Cartier. I am always lurking on their web site waiting for that super deal.....

Is the signedpieces.com website down for everybody else today too, or is it just me? I can't view specific products.
