Well, I went out saturday on my quest for the diamond engagement ring, and fell in love with this stone. I wanted a diamond no less than 1.75, until the jewler brought this one to my attention. here are the specs:

GIA Cert
6.79x6.38x4.76mm
1.68ct
Depth=74.6%
Table=74%
Girdle=medium to slightly thick
Culet=None
Polish=Good
Symmetry=Good
Clarity=VVS2
Color=G
Flourence=None

I paid in total with the setting and tax, 12,400. The setting was about 2,400 if i remember correctly. Is this stone nice? I loved the clarity of it, and the shine it gave. It was the perfect stone, for me. I am very happy with my purchase. I just wanted to know if this stone was a good one. To me it is, but some of you people are experts at this stuff. Just want oppinions.

Thanks

What does clarity have to do with "shine" ?

Assuming it is a princess cut, the proportions read "better than average" cut and if there is a much better price to be had, it would not likely happen among PS postings. 10k sounds about right

( bad version I post got polished here!)

I tend to disagree. According to the AGA charts, this stone (if it's a princess) is a 1A or 1B depending on the crown (assuming it's at least 8% which it should be with that depth). While it will appear a little small for it's size, it could be a real stunner (I think by "shine" Mikey71497 meant sparkle or brilliance). I think it has the potential to be really nice!

Oh i love it for sure

I was just curious to know what others oppinions were on it, thats all. I did have one other question. did i pay too much for this entire ring? Or am I right around where i should be. If this can be answered, then thanks.

What type of setting did you purchase? Was it designer? Are there side stones?

It was a channel set i think they call it. Platinum band....3 princess cut diamonds embedded in the band on each side. Diamonds in band were G color VS2...(according to the jewler) Entire ring was about 2.54ct

It's hard to compare diamonds because you have so many things to consider, but here are a couple to give you an idea of price (these include tax and shipping):

1.52
G
VVS2
72.4%
68%
GIA
stk-vtk
no
gd
gd
ft
6.33x6.30x4.56
$9251
---------------------------
1.74
G
VVS2
72%
70.5%
GIA
med-sl thk
no
gd
vg
no
6.85x6.60x4.65
$11038

All in all, it looks like you did pretty good Depending on the size of the diamonds in the band, you might have been able to do a little better for the cost of the setting, but I wouldn't worry much. You seem to have gotten a good deal

cool thanks. The diamonds in the setting just a tad below 1ct. Here is a scenerio for you.

Some kid i know got a diamond round 2ct D color uncertified. He paid, with the setting and tax, 12,500. Now i knew it wasnt possible to do this because a D color 2ct round is like 14-17k with other factors added in. Come to find out the kid got an un-certified diamond. Kinda mad me mad because i was looking at him for advise, and he told me it was certified (GIA.) i went to the guy he went to, and the guy pulled out the paper work and told me he got everthing so cheap because he bought an uncertified diamond. ALso, the diaond has visible clouds in it. I can see them. He tells me its an SI1, but i think its an I clarity. I dont know why people have to lie about stupid things like that. Sad part is, its my girlfriends sister's fiance.

It is sad. He may, however, have had the diamond certified after purchasing it. I doubt it's an SI1 if you can see clouds so easily, but it may just be a really bad cut that shows the inclusions (better cut stones won't show much). In other words, it is possible that he's not lying (or just doesn't know better). Not everyone is as informed about diamonds!

Congrats again on your stone and ring! Sounds like a beauty (post pics if you can)!!!

Honestly, there is no point to asking what others think in this situation.....we can't see the ring (which is key to buying fancies), and you love it.  It really doesn't matter what we think.

The question about "did I pay too much" seems a bit irrelevant too.  If you weren't happy with the price, you wouldn't have paid it, right?  If you felt the ring was worth it, then you paid a price that you considered fair.  That's really all that matters.

Bottom line:  You love your ring, and you purchased it at a price you were comfortable paying.  Close the book on it, don't second guess yourself now, and enjoy your lovely ring!

I will be sure to post pics up. Well, i know he got it appraised, but i doubt he got it certified. His fiance keeps asking him for the paperwork on it, and he gives her excuses because there IS NO PAPER WORK!! Here she is thinking she has a certified stone, he is telling everyone its certified (GIA) told me to my face, and come to find out lied about it.
