Has anyone else now that they have read up on diamonds and clarity, cut, color become disenchanted with the rings they bought previously and once loved?

I have a few small dress rings that I cannot believe I bought diamonds that looked like that.

Anyone else?

Lots of people seem to feel that way after they become more involved with buying a more recent diamond. Don't feel bad, diamond buying is a learning curve, for us and for you... We look back at some of the stuff we bought and sold in the very early days of our business before we knew better and wonder what we could have been thinking. So life goes.

Yes, Pyramid, my first e-ring diamond qualifies. I still love the diamond and have kept it for a future project. However, when I saw it loose, (was going to upgrade setting) I sure was disappointed. I knew nothing about diamonds, and I bought from a maul. (he paid, I picked) The sad part is it was one of the prettiest diamonds in the store at the time. I adore the stone for what it represents. I just wanted a much better cut and clarity. I ended up with the same color. (can't see it, won't pay for it) Clarity, cut, and symmetry bug me if they are off. So, I will pay for those. Oh, well, lesson learned.

Yes, absolutely! But, live and learn, I say! Just have to apply what I learn in future purchases. Hindsight is 20/20!!!

I have a lot of diamonds of various shapes and forms (DH used to give me jewelry for most occasions). NONE of them are well cut. I initially fretted about it as I got smart about cut. The ideal-scope was the kiss of death for these stones! Now, I'm coming around to thinking about what I can do with them that will still be fun and wearable. They are still sentimental and beautiful, so I'm coming full circle on them.

Thanks for your replies Shay37, headlight and lop. I think once the years go by we will come to accept them for what they are. Still pretty jewellery anyway. I do think that diamonds in one of the national chains here has gone down in quality because one of my stones looks better than what they sell now. Other independent jewellers and chains I think have improved their cut on diamonds anyway.

I suppose it is the same with everything we buy once we learn more we would choose something different.

*puts my hand up*

In the process of shopping for new stones to upgrade to a 3 stone ring, I have learnt so much from Pricescope and realized that my current stone is not a very well cut stone. However, I am a sentimental person and have decided that I want to keep my stone in the new setting.

Now that I've learnt more abt diamonds, I am determined not to settle for anything less than ideal

That said, the first stone my husband gave me will always have a special place in my heart

That is exactly how I feel I am sentimental too

Ofcourse, most people (not all), cannot afford ideal cut large diamonds when they get engaged in their late teens or early 20s.

You just still love them. Remember what they meant at that point in life and know you have swithched from beer to champagne! That's a great thing!
