The Rapaport Report (Feb 1, 2002) downgrades the cut-quality from "A" to "B" for diamonds with "surface graining." The price reduction is about 10%.
The GIA seems less negative on "graining" for either clarity or cut (their Diamond course).

Is graining really bad?
