One of my big fears is that my GF is skulking these boards and getting the inside scoop on all my plans. Today, I don't care. Here's why I have to share... This easter, my GF's brother announced at dinner that he and his GF got engaged! I was most likely noticibly hurt by this, since I had been planning on doing this for awhile. But as everyone knows, searching for the perfect ring is an arduous journey. So I decided to be patient. My GF is the oldest of 4, so I'm sure she was a little hurt too. But you feel guilty b/c you want to be happy for them. Then when I got to see the ring, I was shocked again to see that it was very similar to the Vatche X-Prong I had planned to get! DOH! Today, I had been searching the forum and for whatever reason I came across these posts about Zales. Zales OMG Zales Octillion Cut The 3/4 octillion cut x-prong copy was exactly what he got her. According to the Web site, it goes for $5K for an unspecified 3/4ct H/I, SI2! EEK! ![]() On the one hand, I'm happy I made such a good choice, but now I feel really bad that he probably overpaid. I sure hope he got it on sale! I checked the Web site and they only have a 30 day return policy, 90 day for exchanges. I wouldn't even know how to approach him, even it was possible. ![]() I'm certain I heard him say that the diamond had 8 sides, but was confused when she said it was round. Having purchased it, I'm sure he was right. But with 8 equal sides, of course it would look round. I am happy to say that it did look sparkly in the dim dinner lights. And just as long as she's happy, then I guess it's all ok. I sure hope he didn't charge it b/c the Web site says that the APR is 23.73% and the DEFAULT rate is 26.73. There are two plans, interest free for 6 months or 12 months. But if you don't pay in FULL, then interest kicks in from the beginning at the above rates. Oh my.

When yours has more sparkles it will be readily obvious who invested the time. I'd let them be happy with what they got... Plus, I really like the curves of the Vatche MUCH more than their copy - seems more subtle.

I do like the Vatche better too. I think their copy sits very high, which there are plenty of good high settings out there. I like the organic flow of the Vatche and that it sits lower. And you're right, the DBoF stop sign lives... at Zales! VH (aka GroomZilla) |

I agree with everyone above. Telling your brother that he'd probably overpaid for his ring may make your brother happier, but it will likely make you the least popular person to your future sister-in-law. Currently, she has placed a very sentimental and extremely special moment to that ering because it is THE ring and THE diamond she got engaged with; no $1,500 or even $5,500 overpayment can replace that. To her, that ering is now priceless. Well, at least that is what my personal experience has been. I originally bought a ugly, dull, overly thick and way overpriced B&M ering (before even knowing what the word cut really meant). Luckily, I was able to return the ering but had already proposed with it. To this day, despite upgrading to a bigger, better, brighter and branded triple H&A three-stone ering, she said that on the inside she prefers the original ering because it was THE one she got engaged with. This just goes to show that women (not all) put more value on sentiment than on actual cost and material. squire "Our country is defined by the rights we protect, and those of us who fought for freedom and put our lives on the line defended the right of people to do things that we disagree with. I would not be pleased to see someone burning the flag because I love the flag, but the Constitution that I fought for preserves the right of free expression." |
