They claim that all the stones are laser inscribed, but since these cultured diamonds are basically still just diamonds, the inscriptions can be polished off. Also, depending on size, they can be recut and sold. That's a darn shame. VH (aka GroomZilla) |

Does anyone know if an appraiser can tell if it's a natural or lab grown yellow? My inclination is that it would be fairly difficult to tell for certain.

there are a number of ways, but knowing for certain can require expensive instrumentation if the clarity is high.
if the synthetic diamond has a noticeable flux inclusion, however, all you need is a loupe or microscope.

----------------What's a flux inclusion and what does it look like in a loupe?

I've seen photos where a piece of the metal catalyst is left in the diamond, but it's not always there. Something tells me that the GIA would id these 100% of the time, and I hope nobody would purchase a fancy intense or vivid stone larger than melee without a GIA report.

---------------- the major labs can all id them. there are certain specific characteristics that show up in synthetic diamonds and not naturals, but you need expensive instrumentation to perform the tests.
