Hey all,

I know that ebay is not a good place to look for diamonds.....but this fellow has a great rating and it looks pretty legit to me.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=67726&item=4112945123&rd=1

I've been looking for a well-cut 1.5ct for awhile. The only question I have is how much color will show. It's an I/VS1. I've been scouring the "Show me the Ring" section in hopes of finding good examples of I's. Many that are there look very white to me! Others, look yellow. Then again, some of the G's look yellowish there too - maybe bad lighting.

There are more pictures at this link. Why does the stone look so yellowish in these pictures? = (

I hear that a good cut can make color show less....do you think this would be the case here?

Thanks for all your brilliant advice! ; )

Then why are you looking there?

hehe. Good question. I can't resist it!

I generally only look for Tiffany&co rings w/certificates (I figure they must be pretty good), and the diamonds from Diamonds by Lauren. Normally, I would never try to buy something from the Tiffany's store... but this one looks like a bargain. 1.5 I/VS1 for $6000+?

I looked at the specs of the tiffany solitaire and they pretty good. Do you think with a nice cut, the I color will appear more white?

For what its worth, I looked at the first 10 or so most recent auctions of this ebayer, and the items sold ranged from automobile hood ornaments to DVD's.

Still , it may be legit.

If you proceed , I would recommend a "reliable escrow" tranaction with sufficient time to have the diamond properly appraised.

Thanks for the advice. I'm not sure if I will proceed because the pictures make the diamond look yellow.

I guess the good thing is that he said that he would meet at a jeweler to verify the ring. I'm in Houston which is ~3 hr away from Dallas.

To me, it looks more like a J in some pictures. So I'm just wondering if it's poor lighting, or the I color is indeed yellowish. What do you think? = ( I don't want a yellowish stone.

Hi. If the guy is willing to meet with you at a jeweler to verify the ring, and you have an interest, why not do it? Seeing it in person is the best way to determine whether or not you like it.

As to the yellowish, just remember that the pictures weren't taken by a pro. Meaning that he probably took them with a little digital camera and didn't pay attention to the lighting at the time. I saw only one pic that looked like there was some yellow, but in that same pic, it looked like the ring also had a tint of yellow, which seemd to me to indicate that it was some type of lighting or reflection problem.

One thing you can usually count on with Tiffany, besides HIGH prices, is that the stones are usually nice.
