Well, after employing a little subterfuge I found out that Sapphires, my stone of choice, are out for a complimenting pair around a 1ct e-ring (vatche truffle setting).

The choices are Emerald then Ruby in 18/white gold or plat.

I'm a little nervous as I was hoping to cut down on the colour a bit to get the stone. I've read quite a bit that says red/green really emphasizes the yellowish of a stone.

Any suggestions as to the minimum colour of a diamond then so that I can pair it up with a nice set of rocks she'd like?

I think this pretty much calls for Medium Blue Fluorescence....

Thanks!

h is fine with rubies and likely I color would be too.
It takes a bright diamond to play in the same ring with a pair of good rubies so make sure you get a well cut diamond.
Red tends to draw the eye which is why its used for stop signs.
Therefore they will draw some attention away from the center stone but I love the look.

If she is to wear this ring every day then please save yourself much future distress and go with the rubies. They will withstand the rigors of day to day wear much better than emeralds.

As far as the color of the ruby bringing out the yellow of the diamond, perhaps, but this is better judged by looking at the stones than by theorizing. Personally I have never found it to be an issue. Diamonds and rubies look so hot together no one ever notices what the body color of the diamond is.

If you're thinking about emeralds, consider tsavorite garnets. They come in gorgeous bright greens, they're much sparklier than emeralds, they're rarer, they're less expensive for high quality, and (wink, correct me if I'm wrong) they're more durable.

Interesting question. At a 7 in hardness, the garnet is not as hard as the emerald which will tip in at 7.5 - 8. However, the tsavorite garnet is probably less susceptible to breakage and chipping than the often highly internally fractured emerald.

You are correct that it is a much brighter and more sparkly stone than emerald, which seems to trap the light and "glow" in the higher quality stones.

Thanks for the tip- I'll have to think about the green garnets.... I agree Id not want the emeralds shattering on me (as I know she'd take that badly).

Such tough choices... maybe I ought to just go with the central stone. Hrmm.
