I'm back on my quest to find someone to make a good copy of a Blue Nile setting I like. Two companies have been outstanding so far when it comes to service. The two vendors are whiteflash.com, and dirtcheapdiamonds.com. I know White Flash's reputation when it comes to custom settings. However, I would like to get some opinions on both vendors when it comes to having this custom setting done. Any information would be helpful.

Not to resurrect the previous thread, BUT why not just go with the Blue Nile? They are a little more expensive, but how much are you really saving (time, remorse, agonizing over it) if you have the hassle of the prior experience? I received my e-ring last week from BN and not only does it look like the pictures on the site, it looks so much better in person. The way I look at it, it was a little pricier than other e-tailers, but way less expensive than a B&M store. I was very, very nervous about buying something sight unseen, but after I received it, I couldn't be happier. ![]() Just my 2.5 cents (inflation, ya know). Happy hunting!!!

ttmd, You're right, BN is worth it. However, they're selection of diamonds is very small. I looked at every stone in my price range, and none were something I wanted.

I have no experience with either company but I did go the custom route and could not be happier with the result. My philosophy for going custom, however, was not to get a reproduction but to get something unique. There are many posts on PS from fans of various custom designers and companies - Quest, Mark Morrell, TradeShop but the best bang for your buck might be to find a local custom jewelry designer. I searched Google for award winning local shops, I asked around and I walked the streets until I found a designer with great skill and design sense, Alex Gulko in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The end result is a wonderful custom piece in yellow gold and platinum that has the feel of a verragio, which is relatively contemporary but with classic lines to not go out of fashion. A local designer will be able to do a repro too but why not add something, or change something to make your ring unique??

I hate to ask but what's Mark Morell's website? I've been there but I can find neither the link now nor anything on Google ('cept for some actor). TIA
