we are looking for an engagement ring with an unusual setting. She knows she wants a ring which can best be described as having an asymetrical swirling pattern for a diamond, about 2K round which we will purchase separately, we have seached many sites and seem to find primarily the classic settings or variations of it. Any suggestions for web sites where we can look at for more unusual designs would be much appreciated....

Niwaka is a Japanese jeweler. Their designs seem to be flowy and organic, which I personally prefer for solitaires.

weddingband.com showcases a lot of their designer's work. One of their designers, Claude Thibaudeau, has a selection of a more unusual looking designs. Like this one for instance: ![]() If you can describe more of what your gf is looking for, we can probably give you more feedback.

Katbadness, I love the Japanese designer. Not for everyone though, and probably not for my girl...but I love it! My only question, how would the spherical shaped e-ring look combined with the wedding band? I imagine there would be spaces and gapes between the two rings that would look ackward. Can you recommend another designer, a little antique, with maybe a half a dozen small stone, knife edge? Are knife edges comfortable? Thanks! Also, is it better to buy the ring setting from the same place as you buy the ring? I'll probably buy the diamond from either whiteflash or dirtcheapdiamonds, but I don't like their designs. I'm just afraid that if I buy the diamond alone, I run the risk of a seperate jeweler ruing the diamond as he is placing it into the setting. Is this unlikely? What is your recommendation setting for a princess cut?

Hm... I might be wrong, but at least some riong makers would ship a setting to any jeweler orders it, so whoever sells you the diamond could find / recommend a way to have it set in the ring of your choice. However, reading your first post the same design came to my mind as in the post by Katbadness! And definitely a round stone... Is there a picture with the design you have in mind, or at elast close? You may want to inspect the links amassed in THIS "directory" post. Sites like Weddingband, Tradeshop or Claypot also post loads of designs from different sources. Maybe one of them clicks ![]() Ana "The greatest experts are only as good as the sum total of what they have seen." [Souren Melikian] |

Out of curiosity... do you prefer to have a straight wedding band or are you OK with a curved wedding band (to accomodate the asymetry of the e-ring)?
