Hello, I'm in the Atlanta area and in the market for an engagement ring. First question - Could someone suggest a reputable and affordable jeweler in the Atlanta area? Second - The diamond/band setup I looked at recently (local jeweler) had the following specs: Diamond Weight = 1.04 Carat Color = H Clarity = SI1 Cut/Sym = Very Good GIA Certified Mounted on a 6 prong platinum band. I was quoted - $3620 for the diamond and $350 for the band. $3970 total. Is this a good deal? How much would I save it I went down to say a .92 carat diamond with the specs? And is there anything else I should be on the lookout for when purchasing? I'm new to all of this and was just hoping to find the best deal for my money while not getting taken to the cleaners. Thanks for the feedback in advance. B |

Any word on Soloman Brothers in Atlanta? I've had a handful of people say pretty good things about them. Also, what is your take on rings sold at wholesale warehouses such as Costco? I noticed that the majority of them are IGI rated as opposed to GIA. Should I get hung up on the different certifications? Thanks again, B

Wow- the price you got for a GIA certified H/SI1 1.04 is extremely low.
I've heard very nice things about Solomon Brothers.
Generally, I would not compare a store like Solomon Brothers with an operation like Costco.
When Costco buys diamonds, they need thousands at a time- this will not allow for the same pickiness that smaller buyers excersize.

HArd to tell exactly what those critical points would make of the price once you add up all sorts of other factors, not leat of all that magic cut qouality thing that Pricescope is made of ![]() There are a few GIA's H-SI1 diamonds listed just above 3k and just below 1 carat listed here (the "price champ" would be THIS) if buying online sounds appealing... Comming from a local shop, the price is very good! Actually, some diamonds may be discounted for a rather unappealing set of proportions. No idea wether this is the case of your stone. What are the stats on the GIA cert (depth, table, polish and symetry). If this stone comes with, say, 70% depth, the price doesn't sound as great anymore ![]() Ana "The greatest experts are only as good as the sum total of what they have seen." [Souren Melikian] |

Good Point AnA,
We don't really have any info from the GIA report.
Table?
Depth?
Flourescence?
My contention is still- the price of $3620 is way low for an 1.04ct H/SI1 with a GIA report
