This has probably been said before, but it seems many folks fret about the stone endlessly, while only giving the setting some casual thought.  I am as guilty of this as anyone.  I would suggest if you are really trying to create a stunning piece, give the setting a little more consideration.

I live close to Mark Morrell and had him put together a simple setting. Needless to say, the results are spectacular.  Note: Mark’s work is beautiful, but he is equally skilled at interpreting divergent and often mutually exclusive requirements.

I am not saying you have to go the custom route.  Just remember the setting can contribute greatly to the overall beauty of the ring.

Regards and thanks for all your help.

Not that there is anything skimpy about that ring! One relatively large and definitely top quality stone in a nicely made setting. God for you!

It would be great if setting choices could always be communicated online as precisely as diamond stats can ! Of course you are right, though - even on a diamond forum

I have said this before and I say it again now: Once a certain size and quality of diamond has been reached, spending another thousand dollars or so on the diamond won't be nearly as noticeable as putting the same money into a quality setting.

JC,

This is very, VERY sound advice, and in retrospect, I wish that I had done like you did. We do spend too much time obsessing over the stone, and not enough time thinking about the setting.

Your ring is stunning. This is a no excuses, classy solitaire. Congratulations on getting it right!

I think Mark's work is worth a little bit more than a grand. But I wish I could have afforded to hire him! Clearly, quality work.
