While the appraiser does their work with your diamond, is there a risk of them swapping stones on you, etc.? Probably sounds stupid but when you spend that sort of cash it's hard not to think these things. Anybody have any reassuring comments? GTBoy

Find an appraiser that either a friend, coworker, or people on here can recommend. It comes down to trust. Or you can buy a loupe, get familiar with your stone's inclusions, and check for yourself after they've done their work. Some may even let you sit there while they do the appraisal. I know our local jeweler does.

----------- While the appraiser does their work with your diamond, is there a risk of them swapping stones on you, etc.? ----------- Yeah, who checks up on the appraiser? That's one of the reasons I like to do "while you wait" appraisals. The client watches everything that goes on from start to finish. Other than that, though, you've got to go on trust and reputation. An appraiser who makes his living on referrals and repeat business is not likely to jeopardize it for a "one time deal". Let's say he were to make 5 or 10 thousand dollars ripping you off. It's inevitable that he will be found out, probably sooner than later. Then he loses his entire yearly income, reputation and comfortable job. Even if an appraiser were not a high integrity individual, he would have to be stupid to risk all that for a measly 5 or 10 thousand. Rich, Independent GG Appraiser |

I'm looking at Whiteflash.com right now. I must say I'm impressed. I guess I am not too worried about cleanings and checkups, as most resellers will gladly check rings, etc. for money, and sometimes even free (if you've shopped there previously). I think the savings of 2-3G is probably going to be worth it. Does anyone have any advice/comments for buying from Whiteflash.com? Thanks again! GTBoy
