Hey Ladies and Gentlemen!

I just put the deposit down today (can feel the butterflies waking up).

Im 28, about to get engaged for the first time, im currently living in san francisco, but me and the soon to be MRS. are moving down to boca raton, florida. So on top of the proposal, we are moving together to a totally new place. Lots of Big Changes!

At first I had decided on a .73ct diamond from GOG, that stone was right about the 3k mark. Being recently unemployed with future employement being uncertain down in florida, my common sense told me I had to scale back, just to be prepared for a lengthy stint of joblessness. BTW I have been verrrry secretive and aloof about the whole ring situation, she has no clue, except something is going to happen pretty soon . Also she has been totally on the "just buy me a walmart ring till we get stable" type mentallity.

That just would not do, no walmart for my special lady.
So, the .73 was out, I then had the idea of going to tiffanies and buying a nice little silver band with a .02 diamond in it. This ring is pretttty. Cute, quality and inexpensive, right up my alley!! Then I called my mother, who is the wisest of wise. She told me what I had in the back of my mind all along "go with something that she can show off, and will last and be worthy if you never decided to upgrade." Soooo In the end I called up GOG, who btw have been nothing less than stellar and we came up with this. For the price, I doubt I could have did any better!

.450 carat, H&A Ideal 0
Round brilliant
si1 (eye clean)
H
Depth 62.1%
Table 56%
Crown Angle 34.0
Pavilion Angle 40.9
Pav depth 43.4%
cutlet size .6%

This stone will be going into tiffany style six prong white gold setting, medium height with the prongs slimed down.

I hope to have everthing finalized tommarow.

What do you think?

Aha! "medium height and small prongs" sounds very god to me. If I am not mistaking, one of the quality marks of the respective Tiffany ring is their matching setting size with the stone's - and this would not be completely unthinkable for those standard settings either given a bit of post-production jeweler's attention

This will definitely be a rig to show off: nice stone and (predictably by now) setting to match

I think you will find that H S1I (eye clean) is a great combination when the stone is well cut... and I have found the stones at GOG to be well cut! Congratulations!

What a great value! At just under 5 mm across and with those amazing B'scope results this will look alot bigger than .45 ct. My wife was very happy with a .34 ct pear for over 10 years. Congratulations and good luck in Florida.

How much are you spending. I think you can easily get 1.00ct / SI1 / H Diamond with the gold ring for not more then $2500. the ring should not only reflect your love for her but some sense of security also.

I think (and no one beat me up here) that if you are moving, and having quite a few enxpenses coming up) why not just give her a promise ring, save up and get her that same .45 or .73ct stone you want, LATER?

Tiffany's has LOTS of other rings (without the diamond), that are under $200, and still pretty.

Yes if you are oficially proposing, then a diamond ring is much nicer than a non-diamond ring. However, if you can propose later on with more financial ammo, she could be sad at first, but maybe it's worth the wait. Not to get a bigger ring, but to have you BOTH be in a better financial situation. My fiance and I did this, and we are VERY happy we waited. I wear my promise ring on my right hand ring finger every day.

Either way. if you have chosen to do it now, good luck! It IS a lovely stone, and it is a symbol of your love. Frankly, she will be floored by the proposal, and the ring is a nice little reminder of that moment. All the best to you and wishing you the best of luck!!!

Actually, this sounds very gooood:

So, ring aside,

How about one H&A, AGS0 H-SI1, 1carat stone for $2500 ?

This would definitely beat the option of out friend here and bring deflation to the diamond market as we know it... I suppose. And you can enlist PS for free online publicity for 'bargain basement' ideal cut round brilliants in the process

Hey Sam2000 -- can you send me a couple hundred of those H SI1 1 ct diamonds for under $2500?  I'll trade you for this bridge I'm selling -- it has a great oceanfront view, right in the middle of Arizona, would you believe?

weemodin,

I'll send you those H SI 1 ct if your oceanfront view includes cactus.

it is always harder to find a "mind clean" stone than a eye clean stone.
