I hear platinum went up to $900 an ounce. Is that true? Is white gold an alternative or should I stick with platinum? Ken

Platinum is traded on the market place, so you can always follow the price per ounce HERE As such there is always a mark up for crafting it, as well... Link to Platinum News I say stik with what you think would be best. Personally, prices will always go up and down, and the amount it has gone up IS significant from last year, but that's what makes it a precious metal. White gold is light and scratchable, whereas Platinum is a bit darker (with patina), heavier and also scratches but less and doesn't lose weight when scratched. Who can say if Platinum will get cheaper, so it's your call! GOOD LUCK!!! "Sometimes it's OK to throw rocks at girls...as long as they sparkle! |

depends! I prefer to put every penny towards the center stone. I am also a habitual upgrader so it would be silly to spend $ on platinum. My original e-ring was plat...very dull....My new is white gold....still shiny...but I will need to replace in a few years....No prob!

Good Point More! I got engaged with a lovely simply white gold setting, and when I have the right designer and design, it will be forever placed in my platinum band. But right now i am more than happy to have white gold! Maybe if you know EXACTLY what she likes, Platinum would be the way to go, but if not, maybe whitegold can be a good upgradeable answer, especially if she likes variety...? "especially if she likes variety" = "if she's a psycho like me!" LOL

Another thing to consider about platinum is the weight of it. I prefer platinum becasue I love the weight of it compared to gold. I can *feel* the ring on my finger and I love that sensation. I also happen to like the patina it gets.
