Stuller (at stuller.com), Ingwer (not sure about their site, but GIG posts a load of catalog pages anyway)...

Thanks Val! I actually had an ingwer and looked on their site and also stuller...didn't love em.... I just saw this puppy- what do you think? But I did notice that when looking directly at the stone you'd be able to see the top of where the stones wrap around...know what I mean? Don't know if I like that....

Is the problem at the tip of the arrow below ?

This seems to be interpreted either as a blessing: some "illusion setting" models take up that space and use it to enhance ht ecenter EXAMPLE, others send th cenetr stone sky-high to tuck the 'colar' underneath completely (LINK. The picture at idestore gives the impression that the respective 'frame' was left unpolished - which I doubt. Otherwise it could make a nice 'diamond magnifier' - a strategy used in older settings allot.

oh you're just too good! I bet it would make the center stone look a bit bigger....Don't know if I love it though. Also, I have a fairly large princess diamond band....maybe it would be too "much".... hmmmm..... Thanks for your help!

I think the arrow is pointing to some roughness or less than well finished area in that ring. It is sort of an extra width piece of metal to make like a reflector or make the diamond have the illusion of being larger. While it could be better finished before the diamond is set, the example in the photo might highlight something faulty with that particular style that needs attention.

Designer or non-designer mountings can be the entire range of very finely made to poorly made. Being a designer "name" may have no importance at all or may allow a customer to have total confidence. I have seen some of the Mark Morrell custom rings and they are at the very top pinnacle of quality. Outside of the Internet, I don't think MM has a large following because it would be very hard to make huge quantities of such well made rings. SO, as a designer, MM is just a name we know, but the work speaks for itself. There are other players in the mounting game. Many are trying to make "names" for themselves and others are doing excellent, but generic work. It is so difficult to know the "quality" of what you might buy on the Internet, so I suggest getting plenty of checkable references before choosing who to buy from and what to order. A good jeweler can take a Stuller or Ingwer mounting and make it into quite a nicely finished item, while a butcher can order the same components and make a total mess of it. The cost would be very similar unless you just know better. If you know how to ask for the right things, you will be able to get a very pretty ring, designer or non-designer.

thanks dave- great points as usual! I think I'm just not a "setting" kind of gal. I prefer to pour every cent into the stone...the setting to me, as long as it is nicely finished and a good price for the quality, is secondary. Especially since I will probably upgrade again in the next few years. I think I may just go for a plain settings again sans the accent diamonds...

thanks guys! I had actually been on the Ingwer site before. But what I'm actually looking for are some vendor names online...just different vendors to browse! Thanks.
