Am I correct that the GIA/AGS certify just the diamonds and not the rings? If am I correct and I try to buy all the diamonds separately will it matter is the sidestones are not certified and the center stone is? (All the diamonds are from the same place) Thank you for your help.

Smaller stones (say most diamonds less than 0.5cts) are sold not certified. Of course, you can always get the ring and have someone confirm the matching color of the sidestones. It may not be feasible to get a dead on color and calrity grade on mounted stones, but you can ask for approximate grades (split grades, such as G-H, and VS1-VS2). RGL (maybe AGS too?) woudl give such grades four mounted stones... Ana "The greatest experts are only as good as the sum total of what they have seen." [Souren Melikian] |
