I recently purchased a 1.57 carat emerald cut (F, VVS2, 63.5 depth, 62 table, 13.1% crown height) and now I'm looking for a setting. I was thinking of buying two smaller stones and putting it in a 3 stone ring, but am looking for suggestions / favorites. My girlfriend really likes something simple, but I've had a hard time finding anything I really like. I'd also like to make sure that the main stone still remains prominent. Any ideas? Also, if I do pair it with two smaller diamonds, what do you think the proportion should be so as not to overpower the main stone? Thanks for your help! killian |

Yay! There must be about 1000 types of rings fittig the overall description. Maybe you could check some basic options for a start among the usual ring components ; #0. ready-made or 'on order'? #1. bezel or prongs? #3. thin or wide band? #4. high or down on finger? Hope this helps narrow down the field a bit ![]() If sidestones, what shape would those be? There is a "design your own" tool that let's you adjust the size of the sidestones (LINK), but that would not list some popular shapes for sides. A nice lineup op rings with sidestones is listed at Diamondsbylauren (LINK). Most likely any seller here could provide a well-matched apir of sides, and Dirtcheapdiamonds (LINK) even lists prices for them. As for 'the field' - you might want to check a certain thread on teh "FAQ" forum with a load of sources for settings (about a month wort of browsing!). Another 'mine' of styles could be weddingband.com - just 'cause they list dozens of designers. I must admit though, that a simple, well-done setting might actually be the least easy to find! My favorite ? A band with the stone burnish set E-W, I guess. YG, of course ![]() Ana "The greatest experts are only as good as the sum total of what they have seen." [Souren Melikian] |

Actually, how about these three: EC with diamond band at Dunn Jewelers Bezel set at Jewelryexpert Square stone rings at NiceIce EC set rings at WashigtonDiamond Each site has more models and all could be modified, I guess. The precise execution of these rings got them into this lineup - and surely there is no way I could do justice to the hoard of sources and designs ever mentioned here. I was actualy seeking a ring with trapezoid sides ('cause I strongly believe they are the one way to make a Emerald cut even more elegant) - but could not find a decent representation. ![]() Ana "The greatest experts are only as good as the sum total of what they have seen." I'm actually not all that fond of 3-stone rings for ECs. For an EC of that size, I'd prefer to have it stand alone in all its singular elegance. What would be really gorgeous is something like the way those square emeralds are set in the niceice site, especially if the band tapered into the head. http://www.niceice.com/asscher/asscher_rings1.jpg

Not much could be improved over the solitaire at Niceice - if you like the style The left-most is what I had in mind, but I couldn't get myself to chop the pic (other images from Dunn Jewelers).Ana "The greatest experts are only as good as the sum total of what they have seen." [Souren Melikian] |

Hi, I am a huge fan of emerald cuts, so first, congratulations. I just got an emerald cut for my 25th anniversary. You didn't say if your girlfriend will be part of the setting selection process. If she will be, then I would defer to what she prefers. She'll be wearing it. If she won't be a part of the process.... if she really loves simplicity, I don't know if I would go with the three stone plan. You also need to get a sense of whether she prefers a contemporary look, antique (deco inspired) classic. White or yellow gold or platinum. It really is a process of elimination. You'll have fun. Enjoy.
