GIA certed: 1.71 RB, F, SI2, ideal cut, set in Vatche X-prong platinum ring. It was appraised by AGA at approximately 20k, with class 1B cut, and SI1 clarity. I'm not in a hurry to sell it; I can be patient for the right price. I would like to get an estimation, or a range to shoot for, so I don't hold out for an unrealistic figure. I've looked on eBay and wasn't encouraged by the activity I saw. I've thought consignment instead may be my best bet.

I'll buy it for $100 ;-) But seriously, you can sell it for what someone is willing to pay. I really doubt you'll get the appraised value. Have you looked on the pricescope diamond search for a similar stone? I'm not sure how much the setting would go for, maybe $500 since it's platinum? Oops, you did list color E. Pricecsope says anywhere between $11 and $15k for just the diamond. I think in general trying to sell a diamond ring or a particular diamond can take a very long time unless you sell it for well under market value. That's why not everyone is a jeweler. I could be wrong, and if I am, how do I get into the business ;-)

I bid $101.50!! Wait, is this the Price is Right? Where's Bob Barker? Anyway, search for threads on consignment, there's sometimes a hefty fee to pay with that route. From what people have said, you may only get half. But then again, what do I know? Why are you selling? VH (aka GroomZilla) |

Here's a post from the FAQ that addresses your question: Selling a diamond Keep in mind that anyone online could get a very similar ring made brand new for give or take $10K. So it wouldn't be reasonable to assume that anyone would give you that amount or more for it . . . you're not a store where the ring can be returned or serviced. You will need to reduce the price of the ring below that enough to induce someone to buy a used ring. How much more would you pay for a used car from a dealership than for a used car bought from its owner? You might want to search for "diamond ring NR" on ebay to see how much diamond rings that don't just sit there with a "buy it now price" sell for there. I see a one carat certified ring going for about 25% of its appraised value.

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to pass on those bids. Since the stone alone appears to be worth 11-15k on Priscope I will hold out to get significantly more than I've been offered so far - like, maybe 9-10k. Or, if I can't get that, then perhaps I should just keep it until my next proposal and then have it reset.
