to make into a pendant using my grandmothers diamond. Tsav is .67; diamond is .48. I've got a design in mind for the setting but any suggestions are welcome

Matata,

That's a very pretty stone. What are the mm measurements?

In your design do you have the pointy end going North or South?

Katbadness,

The pointy end will be toward my neck. I've attached a very crude sketch. This is the first idea that popped into my head. Not very imaginative. The "x" part holding the stones would be gold and thicker than the bezel that would protect the bottom of the tsav -- although if possible, I'd prefer not to have any metal around the bottom.

size is 5.2 x 6.2 x 3.2 mm

This should be readily feasible with a split bar of metal around the girdle of the tsavo, ending with 'stoppers' just around the corners of the larger sides. I would have the diamond is a simmilar type of setting set articulated (or not, whichever works easier). The plot would much better work in gold - and if it must look like platinum, gray gold does a clas act at that.

I assume the diamond is 5 mm diameter and the tsavo I know to be 5.2 x 6.2... am I right?

In consequence, the proportions of the piece would turn out differently, and given the comparable weight of the two stones it would be nice to have them set articulated... I suppose.

Actually, fresh from the scanner - it took less to jot down than scan - and this explains the wacko lines and all. If of any use... I am always happy to blacken paper

Valeria!!!!! Oh my, bless your heart...that design is beautiful. I'll be taking it to a jeweler as soon as I (1) get the stone (hopefully late next week) and (2) save enough $$ to have it made.

That design is brilliant!

I can't sketch to save my life, that's why I always have to describe something to someone else who *can* draw. Ah well, that's how you deal with the gifts given you I guess...*grin*

Beautiful!!! Big garnet fan here! Can't wait to see the necklace! Valeria's suggestion is stunning. Do you have some other ideas to bounce... Lovely!

Gee guys! Thanks

The jeweler would need much more detail than this rough guide... and there must be 1000 things one can do with these two stones

Matata,
Beautiful stone.  Keep us posted!

Valeria,
Wow, you are very talented.  Sketching like that is not a simple task to us *regular* folks.

I just emailed the sketch to Mark Morrell to get some preliminary cost info. I'm hoping he'll be able to make the piece. Even though it'll be tiny, I want it to be mighty

AnA -- super nice design... Are you sure you're not a jeweler of some sort?

Matata -- another design thought here..
To make the whole pendant a bit longer is you can add a single melee stone in the middle of the RB and the tsavorite. Either a marquise or small RB, though I think adding a marquise will make for an interesting look. Just my design 2 cts of course. .

Love the shape of that tsavorite and the both the proposed designs are classic and lovely. The first is more ornate, the second more modern, but both would complement the stone very well.
