Good morning folks. So, my weekend was wonderful until Sunday morning hit. I was up early, showered, dressed and ready to go do our registry. We had amazing weather on the East Coast this weekend and we were pumped! So, my precious is on and shining...I took it off for a simple 60 seconds to wash 2 dishes, turned around and it was gone. Did I lose it or did someone in my home that stopped by for a quick visit take the advantage of my back being turned and scoop it up? Well, after FIVE HOURS of searching, crying, and my fiance just beside himself we figured it was stolen from my own family member who has a lot of financial troubles. So I take my puffy eyed self to the cops and file a report. We were devastated. Although we have insurance, nothing can replace the sentiment. I can tell you this, the entire day that I cried I wanted to kick myself in the ass for ever wanting a bigger stone and wanting a better quality. All I cared about at that time was MY e-ring. The one and only... My fiance was so upset, he cried too. He finally said that we will take the insurance money and buy a bigger better one online from someone who takes credit cards so we are safe(LOL, he refused to buy online and he could have gotten a better deal, so I thought that was sweet of him to try and make me feel better). The thought of having the F color I want with a higher clarity than SI1, and having the size I want, and having white gold instead of Platinum so I can have an even larger stone, didn't mean poop. I wanted my H color SI2 that although, according to the folks here, is deep with a large table for a princess... is SO sparkly and clean. I wasn't happy with making an insurance claim. SO we decided to head out for a bite to eat since we searched our home high and low, pulled the sinks apart, checked our pets "disposal", ugh! you name it and we did it!! We needed a break. We went and ate like crap to feel better LOL. We had a few drinks, and came home. The whole time we are driving home I kep remembering what the accused thief said to me after he tried helping us look for it. He said "maybe you left it in the bathroom and don't remember?" But we searched the bathroom, just in case I was losing my mind and didn't take the ring off in the kitchen. It dawned on me in the car, the accused went into our bathroom for quite sometime "searching" for my precious. Hmmm, maybe it scared him when I said something is up? I go in the bathroom and just sit on the toilet. I am looking around and I see something shining from BEHIND my stainless steel trashcan. OMG MY PRECIOUS!!! I WAS ESTATIC. Now how in the world did it get back there and I NEVER heard it fall off the counter BEHIND the trashcan? Why didn't I see it the first few times we searched the bathroom? Seems to me that someone tried to take it not realizing I would notice it is gone immediately, and planted it behind my trashcan out of fear, just before he left. I can't prove it, but I know it inside. So, for those of you think that you can just get insurance $$ and get a better stone if yours is lost, think again, it is a horrible feeling. The sentimental value kicks in when it is gone...a good lesson learned for me. ![]() |

It's great to hear that you found your ring! On the flip side, it's so sad to hear that you suspect a family member.

Bridget, so sorry to hear about the issue, but luckily it had a happy ending! Hate to admit it, but I once had a very expensive and sentimental ruby ring my mother gave me (her HS graduation ring in 22K gold) which was sitting on the counter shelf while I washed dishes for a family gathering. Then later that day it was gone and NEVER found again. We suspected the same family member who "borrows" thing without asking and has been seen with my mother's fine silverware in her bag... Sad, but sometimes it happens. Even worse, I have a cleaning lady whom I trust MUCH more than this family member (probably because she has better stuff than me anyway!) I am so happy for you that you "found" your ring! That was close! I try not to take mine off too much (it has only been three weeks)! It seems that the more often it is removed from its safe finger, the greater the chance of its disappearance... so when I do dishes - I just wear gloves! You can get ones with cotton lining so they are easier to get on and buffer the ring a bit against bumps - and you can use really hot water! When I go to the gym I wear those half=glove things so the dumbells and the rail on machines don't damage the ring. Maybe some people it looks silly - but I'd rather not be taking it on and off all the time - it might disappear! Thanks for the reminder - it is a very sentimental thing! Insurance won't replace that. "Compassion, in which all ethics must take root, can only attain its full breadth and depth if it embraces all living creatures and does not limit itself to mankind". OMG!! Bridget!! How horrible for you both and then how wonderful for you both !! What a gut wrenching day with such a happy ending!! ![]() I know exactly what you mean too. Even though we've found PS and we know what to look for now, it cannot replace the sentiment of pieces we received before all the knowledge!! Many Congrats on getting your Precious back!!
Why use a big word when a diminutive word would be succinct! |

Bridget, what a day. Riding the emotional roller coaster. I hope you celebrated with "something in a flaming rum punch." (anyone remember that line?- I may be misquoting(!) So glad to hear the happy ending. ----------------------------------- ______________________________ |

If you suspect that this "relative" would take something as sentimental as your engagement ring, I would not let this toxic person in my house again. Sounds like this person had cold feet, a change of heart, or something & ditched in the bathroom. Glad you found your ring!

Thanks everyone! Have you ever lost something and you start to think, hmm did I put it here or here? I think all day long, and I second guess myself that maybe I did put it in the bath room and maybe my cat chased it behind the trashcan. I have no clue. This relative is an immediate family member who has a serious past of stealing... Ugh I hate this ![]() However, I have my ring and learned if I do take it off it goes in it's "spot"

---------------- Yes, and make this *habit* with no exceptions. Sad about the relative. There is always one in every family.

Wow thats great you found it! I lost my first promise ring and never found it, very upsetting! But he bought me another one! If I lost my engagement ring I don't think he'd buy me another.
