What do you all think of this one...

1.27 Ct.
Color: H
Clarity : SI2
Depth 73.5%
Table 75%
Polish: V good
Fluorescence: None
6.00x5.74x4.22

It is bigger from west to east than it is from north to south

don't love it. #s are not bible with fancies...but I think it's a bit deep and the table a bit large. That said...have you seen it? If it's a good price for that cut quality and you love the way it looks, there is nothing wrong with buying it...but I personally would keep looking. ALso, is it a clean si2??? Also, I do like a slightly rectangular shape..it makes a tone look a little bigger....most would just flip it and set it so it's rectangular (longer N-S)...!

What exactly does that mean if it is too deep and table long?? I am not sure what these even are...looks very clean and very very sparkly.

Thanks a bunch

Depth too deep: there is wasted diamond that you will not see. Below the girdle (the widest part of the diamond) is the "depth." If the depth is too deep (like over 70-72%) it means there is extra stone on the bottom that was left there to save weight.

Table too large: the top of the stone might look 'glassy.' The table is the top face of the stone and is usually suggested to be around 65-70% and hopefully smaller than the depth. It's often said larger tables on a princess have more brilliance (white light) and less fire (colored light).

Like the original reply said, you can not judge fancy cuts by the numbers. If the stone looks good to you, go for it. I would take a hard look at it both with your eyes and under a loupe-- make sure that the SI2 rating will not bother you. Make sure none of the inclusions or internal flaws are near the edges of the diamond where they might later turn to real cracks. Also, make sure you are happy with the slight rectangular cut as that will be a noticable departure from square.

If you give a price, others can tell you if it's a good deal or not.

Check out the new improved cut chart at

www.gemappraisers.com

This will help you understand the numbers and what numbers make (usually) the best cut.

Good luck!

It is not unusual that princess stones are deeper than round stones. Some princesses with deeper depth look better. It is true that more weight will be hidden and spread will be less but it is still can be a nice looking princess

Kathio22, what I am more worried about the large table, as VBMechanic said. When you look at a stone at 45 degrees with a larger table than depth, you may sometimes find large portions of the stone look glassy and have dark spots that don't sparkle.

When you look head on, it will be very white and sparkly, and it that is more important to you than the fire of a stone, than this could very well be a stone for you.

Also the larger table will make the stone "appear" larger, so is also an added plus to a large tabled stone. It really all depends on your preferences and how the stone looks to you. Good luck and let us know what you decide!!!
