 How often is it okay to clean a diamond ring?

I'm curious because some diamond cleaning solutions have amonia, maybe it might not be good to put something that strong on a stone to often. How often do most of you clean your jewelry?

Use strong ammonia and detergent mixed with boiling water no more than 5 times a day

You're not suppose to boil gold jewelery w/ammonia added to the water, right? Doesn't this cause a chemical reaction that breaks down the gold (but of course, cause no harm to the diamond(s) in the piece?
