The following links will direct you to a few we're contemplating (one from Good Old Gold and the others from Whiteflash), although we're leaning towards the GOG simply b/c of buyer satisfaction. Your opinions, however, are wanted!! I just don't know about the SI2 on the first one. What do you think? All responses are GREATLY appreciated!! I don't know if this matters or not, but the stone will be in a bezel setting. Also, who is EGL and are they a reputable certification company? Why does it seem that diamonds with their certifs are cheaper? 1. This is a 3.08, G, SI2, med bl. flor regent from Good Old Gold. Given these factors, I suupose the best way would be to take a look. Most buyers would have preferences set at least for either brilliant-style or step faceting. The regent and princess are 'brilliant style' the square emerald - a different look altogether. Of all three, I suspect that the Regent would be the most sure bet, if you are not sure what cut style would be preffered by the receiver of the ring. It is not a round, but does match the sparkle of the round in a very classic shape. Among the non-rounds, the regent would be among the most brilliant. It looks somewhat like a 'cushion cut' - quite trendy as far as I know. The princess is popular - but maybe too much or it's own good. It would be hard to find one as brilliant as a round or regent. For me, it is hard to pled the cause of this cut. Of all the three, my preference would be the emerald cut. However, I am very aware that if one likes step cuts, some brilliance would be lost for the sake of the shape. Conclusion: GOG has all three styles of cut. It would be very, very much easier and more conclusive to line up three examples and decide. Found these 3 doing a PS Search 3.00 Carat G , VS2 Depth 67.7 Table 57 Girdle th-vtk Polish Good Sym Good 8.04 x 8.01 x 5.42 This one might be to small for what you are looking at... 2.28 G , VS2 Depth 67.6 Table 57 Girdle Med Pollish EXE Sym VG 7.19 x 7.16 x 5.20 this one is avail at union diamond

We just celebrated our ten-year anniversary, and my husband wanted me to choose a new diamond. Call me crazy, but I really like all three of my aforementioned stones. I do understand what you're saying about the princess, however, in that it may be a short-lived hot-item. Nonetheless, I really like the regent and asscher as well. As for the asscher, here's a question: you refer to it as emerald. Does it fall under this category? I'm confused. Kelly

wallace Cut Rock Total Posts: 282 Last Post: 5/1/2004 Member Since: 3/11/2004	I'll try to clarify a little - anyone, please correct if I am wrong: What Valeria means by emerald cut is that the asscher can be/is sometimes classified as a modified emerald cut. Emerald would be rectangular, to varying proportions, whereas the asscher cut should be square. Another way to look at it - asscher cut is an old-style cut - akin to/roots in the old miner and antique style cuts - and became very popular/well-known during the art deco period. You can find lots of lovely antique rings with the asscher style cut. The dimaond company Asscher who created the cut no longer holds a patent on the cut and anyone capable can cut and sell the style. In an effort to update and create an exclusive product, the Asscher company/family came out with the Royal Asscher cut. This is an enhanced (additional facets) version of the original asscher cut. Check out their site for interesting history on the cut. THerefore, in referring to "generically" cut stones in the asscher style, they can alternately be known as emeralds because they are classified as step-cuts. Hope that helped. As far as "trendy" cuts - there is profusion of new cuts available on the market. Some are branded, like Royal Asscher, Hearts on Fire, and Elara, meaning that those companies have exclusive rights to sell those styles - like Rolex. But you can buy an asscher, an ideal round brilliant with hearts and arrows, and flanders brilliant cuts, respectively, without paying the premium for the name - like a good rolex reproduction. There are lots of excellent cutters around who can cut any of these shapes -the difference is who they work for (in a manner of speaking)! There are many cuts available besides the brand mentioned above - like anything else - some enjoy a moment of popularity. Category - square modified brilliants: Radiant - Princess - Cushion - Cushette - Queen of Hearts - Flanders Brilliant - Regent - Dream (HoF) - etc... So a new cut may become very popular.
