Do you over wish you could just ask somebody, "Hey, what's the weight, clarity, color and cut of your stone?"
translate: "your diamond looks a little cloudy, do you mind telling me the specs so I can make sure I get something better?"

When I was researching cut, I went to a local B&M that was pretty helpful,  I got Sarin reports, went home and ran HCA numbers and went back to look, look, look some more.

I still couldn't tell the difference when I looked at stones with scores of 1.5 or 2.7 or 3.4.  IN all humility, my eyes aren't that well developed.  Just because I understand the science behind the cut doesn't mean I can discern varying qualities.

BUT, I can tell a pretty diamond from a less-pretty diamond.  Kinda like art.  I know it when I like it.

Those scores are not suposed to be read down to the decimal point anyway... no wander. Given Sarin, you may want to calculate their HCAs by angles and percentages and see what the pairs of numbers for the same stone looks like (just don't forget to type in culet size, esp for the % version).

Also, it may help to evaluate stones without the help of intense, direct lighting (the jeweler's shop). I hope that the three stones remain brothers in indirect light too. It would be an interesting test, I guess.

Is it wrong that I HAVE?! *embarassed*

I am just a jewelry animal, so when I see something pretty I inquire and want to know everything the owner will tell or knows!

I noticed that some women rarely know, and tell me size or something, (many are OFF! Usually they state a smaller carat size...?) and then others will tell me color and clarity proudly, like I GOT A D, IF! or I got an SI1, but it's SO clean!!! What a deal!

One lady told me that a VERY interesting antique piece she wore was MADE by her great great grandfather for her great great grandmother, and we both just oohed and ahhed at it on the train together. I think some people LIKE the attention and compliment that you ask, so I always smile and admire the bling, whatever color, size or clarity, but especially if it's unique and different!

I DO NOT do it, to compare. If I was like that, I would be so outshined in the boob catergory I would just stay home!

hahaha, this isn't really on topic, but what I'd LOVE to tell many ladies is, "hey, your diamond would look 10 times better if you just cleaned the thing!" lol It just kills me to see what could possibly be a beautiful stone be covered with junk like lotion and other gunk.

That brings me to a similar question I had been meaning to ask:

How many people actually do discuss all the nitty-gritty details with admirers, even those who don't ask?

Do they look at you strange?

Yes, but those closest to me now understand I am insane, so they nod their heads politely and slowly back away from me as I keep chattering away about stones...

If someone doesn't ask, I don't offer it. It's a symbol, not a badge of honor. If they care to know, I'll tell them, but I like to talk about HOW he proposed and HOW we looked forever and found it finally...I am also a sucker to promote radiants...

And Michelle, I agree! Clean ye'r diamonds ladies! I almost had to take away MoreMoreMore's for that specific reason...

I've been asking friends (people at the office) about their engagement rings. Size mostly, nothing too personal. Would I be overstepping any bounderies by delving any deeper?

Like a good psychiatrist, you will never go wrong by saying, "My what a lovely ring! Please tell me about it..."

They could respond with the stats, the story or a shrug. Either way, no offense taken, right?

So, basically, now I will want somebody else to wear my ring and sit way across the conference room table so I can stand back and see how it looks!
When I am bored at work, sitting in long meetings, I just gaze around the room and wonder about each person's jewelry.

The most I've ever said was, "oh your ring is beautiful" but they usually don't offer much.

There should be a PriceScope convention where everyone can get together and just go nuts in person! Hey Leonid, how about it?

You have hit the nail on the head that no one else it getting. A diamond *is* art.

It's not the artist, it's not the colors, it's not the subject, it's not the skill level. It's how they all relate together. And, for that, one must have to see it.

Vertical, not one person has asked the specs of my stone. I told my best friend b/c she was dying to ask. I have had very funny comments. ONe person looked at it from all angles close & far and exclaimed "It's perfect" I just smiled and said "not really". The general public doesn't know. And, eyeclean is about 6". It would be tacky if someone took your finger any closer to their eye.

It's pretty is the comment I most receive.

LOL, I was just at the store where we bought my ring, to get a good cleaning and check, and I asked one of the ladies to put my ring on and stand across the room. I NEVER get to see what it looks like from afar. Thank goodness they know me well and know I am nuts like that!

I am so glad that I have found people that understand! My husband and daughter think I have lost my mind!

Ahh...don't worry Icelady, we have ALL lost our minds thanks to Price Scope!

I never even considered doing that whole far away thing...wow. I'll have to try that!

My recently engaged coworker has the same finger size, and she often asks if she can try mine on, and so we swap for fun, for a few minutes. Her stone is a WELL cut 1.ct princess, set in an x-prong, and as much as I am not a fan of princesses, hers has such character, I don't like taking it off!!! Each stone has a presence, and that is certainly like a piece of art...
