Appraisal before setting? |

The jeweler is currently making my setting, and I'm going this weekend to get a look at the progress. Should I get the stone appraised before the jeweler sets the diamond? Or just do it once the ring is complete?

Get the diamond appraised while it is unmounted so that the G.G. can have a really good look at it without having to consider the effect of the setting upon the stone and then take it back to the G.G. for final evaluation after it has been set in the ring, most G.G.'s will do this as part of their basic service.
