Just wondering if anyone has any info/pros/cons to either of these cities (Indianapolis or Cincinnati). My BF and I (soon to be engaged if the darned ring ever gets finished ) have been doing the long distance thing for over 5 years. (I live in Milwaukee, WI, he lives in Rockford, IL.) His family lives in Ohio, and mine lives in Wisconsin. We're trying to find a place in between so it's not such a long drive to visit our families, and he has a job offer in Indianopolis, and a likely interview in Cincinnati. I will be teaching wherever we end up, so that is a factor too (if anyone has info on the school systems!)I love Milwaukee, but we need to compromise, so in between it is! Thanks in advance for any comments!

Since Cinncinatti is the hometown of a pottery I collect (Rookwood), I've visited often. I love the City & the People. And, it has a bit of the "old south" in it.

My sister lived in Cinci and my brother went to school there. I've not been nearly as impressed by Indianapolis (or is that Nativeamericanapolis?). Cincinnati has the River, the Reds, the ribs, and Mt this and that. Its seems a much older city with more character.

Hey RA... It's Indianapolis, I dunno where that Native American thing came from. We've been calling ourselves Indi'n for more years than I care to count. Story was, Columbus, upon first seeing the Caribe and Arawak nations, thought they were so beautiful, they were made In Dios (or the image of One Above). India was not know to Europeans as 'India' in the 15th century, it was called Hindustani. It had nothing to do with the citizens of Hindustani, but with the beautiful strong people of the 'New' world. win "... My gut tells me that this is wishful thinking on your part. This is the first thing Google returns.

RA As the author so noted, Columbus was Italian, not Spanish. Even if it's 'wishful' thinking on *our* part, wouldn't it make sense to call a people what they wish to be called? win "... Well, it looks like the job in Indianapolis has won the toss up - we'll be moving in a couple of weeks. At least we'll be close enough to Cincinnati for short road trips to sporting events!

I've lived in Indiana almost all my life although I live in Notre Dame country up north. I'd much rather live in Indianapolis than Cincinnati and I've been to both about the same amount of time. I do know traffic is MUCH worse in Cincinnati although it can get bad on the 465 in Indy. I travel down to Indy often with my daughter because there are lots of things for her to do there.....she just loves the children's museum which is one of the best in the country. I'm much closer to Chicago but would drive to Indy first in a heartbeat. Good luck on your move!!

Thanks! I'm anxious to check out the children's museum (I'm a teacher - elementary school). We're looking on the south side and there are some nice neighborhoods down there (and the traffic isn't as bad as on the N side!) Hope we'll like it. Lots of changes going on right now w/getting engaged, and moving in together - to a whole new area. Should prove adventurous.

I was born and raised in Cincinnati and lived there most of my life...moved away about 10 years ago. I go "home" often to visit family and friends. It's an awesome city that offers the best of both big and small city advantages. Great theater, cultural attractions, one of the best zoo's in the WORLD and it's a real sports town. Downtown on the banks of the Ohio on the Kentucky side is where all the nightlife is. More clubs and restarants that overlook the city skyline are opening up each time I visit. The biggest party of the year is at the end of the summer on Labor Day. The downtown sky lights up with fireworks as hundreds of thousands gather on both sides of the river. It's not to be missed...and I try to get there each year to bid the summer goodbye. I could go on and on as you may have gathered....but if you want any other information feel free to ask. Go to CINCY .... you can't go wrong! Best of luck - from the always "homesick" -- Judi Judi W. |
