So I'm shopping for an engagement ring and I've found one that i like. But i've got concerns about the table and depth numbers. What is the ideal table? This one is 54%, is that too small? it's 54 table, 61.8 depth thanks

That would depend on the shape of the diamond. Try using this pricescope cut adviser http://www.pricescope.com/cutadviser.asp ---------------------------------------------------- |

it's a round cut i've heard the 60/60 rule, and also that the ideal table is 53-57 very confused

Smaller tables tend to optimize the fire in a stone. Larger optimize the white light reflection, from what I have read. Thus, it is a personal choice of which you prefer. Larger may also optimize the visual spread, making the stone look slightly larger. I personally like the smaller tables. Maybe if you are out looking you can compare some ideal with different table sizes to get a feel for the differences. Also, posting this in Rocky Talk may get more of hte experts to chime in.

60/60 is the old rule. Some old-time jewelers who haven't kept up with the new advances still use that criteria. Of course, there's also a lot more to it than just table and depth. Check up the Pricescope tutorial for the full scoop.
